@Tim read the Giant Size one-shot. Really enjoyed that run. I believe I kept a list of the other X-Men recs I got here so I'll probably hop over to some of those after I finish up the 6-issue Strange mini-series I started yesterday.

You know, the more I look at X-Men: Gold, the less excited I get. While the main cast itself is phenomenal, I fucking hate the costumes. I get nostalgia and all, but I think the Extraordinary team re-designs were great modern day updated costumes, especially Storm's. Hate that she's going back to the original costume and losing the mohawk. Rachel Grey's costume is also a huge step down form what her current one has been for years.

In reality, I think Jeff Lemire got kind of a shitty deal with the Extraordinary book. I feel like he was never really able to let the book take off and write the stories he wanted to write. He had a truly extraordinary lineup between the main team and the students/support (Cerebra/Forge), with great costumes. But the book was just so bogged down by having to deal with the time skip from Secret Wars, the extremely forced "mystery" of Scott Summers, Apocalypse Wars, Civil War, and then IvX.

Idk, I feel like that book/writer team was such a well of untapped potential compared to Gold. But we'll see.

I've just consistently thought Gold looks bad. It's the worst part of ResurrXion for me besides Greg Land still getting work with Weapon X. At least everything else looks cool.

@Allpwrtoslaves, you're an X-fan! Do you wanna write one of the blurbs for the Logan recommendations? I haven't gotten anyone else to commit to one yet.

Couple issues into The Flash Rebirth and damn it's fantastic!

I think of all the Rebirth titles I've read so far this I've is the best. Super interesting concept so far!

Hmm recs to prepare for the upcoming movie? I would say,

    - All of the Old Man Logan volumes, obviously. Except maybe the Secret Wars one.
    - Wolverine Volumes 4, 5, and 6. Mostly excellent solo tales that really dig into Logan's psyche. Including trips to Hell, demonic possessions, and just lots more exploration of the various bonds that Logan forms with certain Marvel figures (Jean, Nightcrawler, Puck, Nick Fury, Cap Rogers, Silver Samurai, Kitty)
    - Wolverine and Jubilee: Curse of the Mutants. A great mini taking place just after the Curse of the Mutants arc in the Uncanny book at the time, it's a great showcase for how much Logan cares for certain pupils like Jubilee. Gives you a decent example of what to expect between Logan and Laura.
    - Wolverine and the X-Men: A bit on the lighter side, it's another great showcase of Logan's deep love for the X-students.
    - Death of Wolverine + Tie-ins: Gives you a Logan that has lost his healing factor, and goes about making amends with those he cares for the most. Get some really sweet showcases for his relationships with Storm, Kitty, Sabertooth, Lady Deathstrike, Viper, and the tie-ins and aftermath tie-ins show how much he personally touched X-Men like Kurt, Pietro, Armor (Hisako), Rogue.
    - Rick Remender's Uncanny X-Force: Not really alot to do with Logan, but if anyone is just trying to learn alot more about Wolverine this was a fucking phenomenal team that he ran. One of my favorite volumes in comics ever.
    - Anything Jason Aaron wrote starring Wolverine.

Flash and Superdad are by far the best rebirth books overall. Tom King's Batman has had more of a mixed response, but I think it's been great too as the third best.

I can read that Logan series by BKV and do a write up. In MU it shows it's only 3 issues. Is that right or is it missing some?

By Superdad do you me the Superman book? I want much of a fan overall, I did enjoy the son though and his dynamic was pretty funny to me.

I have enjoyed what I read of Batman but it didn't necessarily wow me. I think once the run really starts going and King gets a good grip of things it'll really shine

Really any of stories or x-books that heavily featured relationships between Logan and Jubilee, Armor, X-23, Daken, Kitty Pryde, or Rogue.

Yeah I mean the main Superman book right now. I think the run has been nearly flawless, and the most recent "Multiplicity" arc has been awesome in the best way, following up on Grant Morrison's Multiversity.

If that's the case then I definitely won't enjoy it hah! Not a big fan of the multiverse stuff

This is a great post and shows that you should totally do one of the "proper" 1-paragraph recommendations for the actual final post (which will be either posted or linked to on the front page of Chorus when Logan comes out).

The actual final post will have about 5 recommendations, each clearly linked to one specific trade so as to be accessible to new readers.

I see you said Wolverine vol. 4-6, which is funny 'cause I wanna include the Rucka run (since it seems like one of the most akin to what Logan is going for), which I think is vol. 3, lol. Are you a fan of the Rucka run enough to wanna write for that? Or do you think one of the later arcs/trades would be a better fit? I'm trying to lean into the tone and/or characters of the film as much as possible.

I didn't include Death of Wolverine in my initial suggestion since I personally haven't read it yet, but it does seem like a perfect recommendation in relation to the film (even if Logan doesn't actually die in it). Maybe you'd wanna write that one? The paragraph would only be about that one story itself, not all the tie-ins.

Ha, that wasn't actually meant for this particular project, but was rather a personalized list of recs for someone in addition to my first post about this project. My bad! I'm down to add it to the list, but if you're gonna be reading something new for this anyways, maybe read one of those original suggestions? Weapon X by Barry Windsor-Smith could be a good, fast read for you, and getting a new, fresh perspective on that classic story could be cool.

If we do settle on Logan by BKV (or if you just read it for yourself, which you should do regardless), yep, it's only 3 issues.

It's only a 3-issue arc :( Don't you want to see all of the Supermen and Superwomen of the universe team up? INCLUDING CAPTAIN CARROT?!?!

Hmm, if you haven't read Death of Wolverine yet then I'd be glad to tackle that one. Even though the new movie might not be about him dying, I think alot of similar themes will apply.

Hey @Deanna, does MU include trades or just issues? 'Cause I just remembered that Weapon X by Barry Windsor-Smith was originally collected in an anthology series along with a bunch of other stuff, lol, so if they didn't put the actual collected story together on MU, that could be annoying to read.

It was originally released in Marvel Comics Presents #72-84, but since the issues contain other unrelated stories, that actual story isn't as long as that number of issues implies.

I feel like J Jonah Jameson, but what are your guys' favorite Spider-Man pictures? Or what images do you find most iconic?

They just do single issues which is why that Giant Size Astonishing X-Men issue was separate. But, you can browse by titles, characters, creators, and events I believe if they've set those up.

I checked out the BKV one and the first issue in MU was literally 2 pages, which seems..wrong? Haha. Let me look for Weapon X. MU can really be a nightmare sometimes.

  23. Tim

...lol, yeah, it's definitely longer than that. Weird.

  24. Deanna

I'll look around for that elsewhere then haha. Issue 2 is the correct length at least.

So for Weapon X, that's the Marvel Comics Presents one that runs issues 72-84 right? Just want to be sure I'm getting the right one haha.

Lots of people hate the storyline itself, but I've always loved the artwork from One More Day:
