Pretty underwhelming records for my tastes. Here's to hoping Dreamcar is a stronger release.

 

I still wonder what they were thinking with that closer, it feels so out of place.

 

I honestly think Dumb Kids is one of the best songs on here, I love it a lot.

 

Such a catchy chorus.

 

With better lyrics it'd be the best song on the record

 

the production kinda clicked with me all of a sudden, although i think AFI is at their best and most experimental when they are on the more overproduced side (decemberunderground, parts of sing the sorrow), i actually kinda like the stripped down approach this time. it reminds me of a newer band self producing their own album, and it could be a bit of a throwback to their roots, or a starting over approach, with it being a selftitled and all. if they could harness their youthful passion a bit more i think they could make an excellent record again. this ones growing on me a lot, but it's still only an average album, and by that i mean, it falls in the middle of their discography, not on top, it's still a good album.

 

Dumb Kids I really couldn't understand a word he was saying in that entire song. I heard "dumb kids" and that's it. Maybe I wasn't trying? Idk. Shouldn't be that hard. Only listened to it once through so far though.

finally getting around to some new album listenings.....

this is pretty ok i guess. not setting the world on fire but there are probably 3-5 songs that can be added to the best of list. To be fair though, 14 tracks, and only 3-5 songs of quality isn't a good thing. I haven't been impressed with a full length AFI album in a while and unfortunately this isn't going to change my mind. I miss Davey's screams :(

dang, 5 is pretty good actually, happy for them! there really is some great tracks on this album, but too many duds that keep the whole experience from being excellent. i would cut "Get Hurt", "So Beneath You", "Feed From the Floor" and "The Wind That Carries Me Away". could have been a solid 10 track release.

 

ive solidified a top 5 of dark snow, hidden knives, above the bridge, white offerings, and feed from the floor. for me, it doesnt have any skip-every-time tracks aside from the closer, tho the rest either have something that almost kills it for me, or are missing something that'd make it great.

 

I love this album now after a few listens. not my favorite AFI album, but definitely one I enjoy and will keep revisiting often. it's simple but I can enjoy it for that reason.

 

Feed from the floor is pretty good. It's all I've heard so far besides the lead single. I'm listening now

 

The Face Beneath The Waves made its live debut last night. I love the surprises almost every night on this tour so far

 

i've got a ticket to the show this friday in NYC but won't be able to go. paid $39 with fees, but i'll offer it for $35 if anyone here would like it

 

Gave this a ton of listens before commenting. Weakest album they've done in the past 5, but man Pink Eyes, Still A Stranger and She Speaks the Language are so good. More songs like that please.

Someone care to explain to me why they like Pink Eyes so much?

 

It's the only song on the album that has fast pace guitar riffs and that chorus is so so catchy and I love the choir like effects in it.

I just hate the song title and I want to rename it something else.

 

I also know Davey can't scream anymore really, but am ok with more aggressive yelling instead like in the chorus of Pink Eyes and White Offerings or the bridge of Still a Stranger.

 

That chorus is so righteous

 

the guitar in the chorus takes too much away from the vocals for me but overall i'm pretty shocked people dont like that song
