Twilight Struggle is supposed to be great but it's pretty complex

Twilight Struggle easily needs an afternoon. I played in ~3 hours and lost by a close 3 points.

Has anyone played the Star Wars X Wing Miniatures Game? I almost bought it yesterday but I made a good decision and didn't because I'm broke lol

  5. SCHENECTADY, NY—Repeatedly seeking to ease his friends’ growing skepticism and disinterest, local man Joel Mayhew peppered his explanation of the rules of the board game Pandemic with reassurances that it will be fun, sources confirmed Friday. “I know you’ll really like it once we actually get going,” said Mayhew, flipping through the game’s instructions to clarify the rules while pausing frequently to promise that the game was much less complicated than it seemed. “Okay, so, basically, once you’ve completed the movement part of your turn, one option is to give or take a city card from another player. You’ll get the hang of it, I swear. Although—and don’t worry if you forget this part, because I can just remind you—you can only share a city card with a player who’s already in the same city as you. Seriously, you’re going to be addicted after we’ve played through the whole thing a few times.” At press time, two of Mayhew’s friends had abandoned the game, and he was hastily reassuring those who remained at the table that it was actually more fun with fewer players.

    yeah good okay Prestigious

I got into it for a little while. I'm a big fan of miniature games, but I sucked at X-wing lol. I'm just not good at dogfighting, I suppose. Sucks because the models look awesome and it's Star Wars. It's also a little on the expensive side.

I'd recommend watching a few videos about gameplay before making a choice.

After getting Forbidden Island I'm wanting to get one more game with birthday money.

I'm trying to decide between Mysterium and Ticket To Ride?

At this point I'm basically talking to myself but oh well.

Played Forbidden Island with the wife tonight and we won (although we fucked up the rules a bit but we'll know for next time)!

Also bought Ticket To Ride for us to play, excited to try that out.

Haven't played ticket to ride yet.

Think my next purchases will be the manhattan project, 7 Wonders Duel and Twilight Struggle.

Played Ghost Fightin' Treasure Hunters for the first time last week. It won the Kinderspiel des Jahres a couple years ago so it's definitely meant to be a kids game, but the harder of the two difficulty options can still be challenging for anyone. It's on the light side of things for sure, but it would work pretty well as a good intro game to non-gamers.

Battle Line is an essential two player card game. So is Star Realms. Patchwork and Mr. Jack are can't miss duels as well.

Forbidden Island's a lot of fun. My wife and I only won the first couple of times because we weren't quite following the rules too, I think, but we soon got the hang of it. Forbidden Desert is also lots of fun, if a bit more complicated.

Good call on Ticket to Ride, too! Those were the first three games we had when we got married, and we've had lots of fun with them together.

Forbidden Island is fun, good intro game, a bit Pandemic-lite for my liking though. Forbidden Desert is the one that justifies the price point for me. Great added mechanics that definitely make the experience feel fuller thematically and also just a more fun game.

I love Forbidden Desert. I don't think I've won it yet, came close a lot of times though.

Honestly I'm fairly new to the board game nerd culture (?), Didn't know it was a thing until a year or so ago. Growing up, my family would have board/card game night every week and I loved it but it was more like kid games I guess like Monopoly, Carmen Sandiego, Clue, Phase 10, etc. I never really knew much about the strategy type games or co-operative type. My favorites are Clue and 1313 Dead End Drive.

It's basically just my wife and I(until my son is old enough that is) to play games as we don't have any other friends and she's not AS interested in some of the games I've been eyeing but either way we both enjoyed this so far. Played again last night and won fairly quickly (while playing correctly this time)! I think it's time to move up to Normal instead of Novice lol!

I'll definitely put Forbidden Desert on my list of games to get next. Still really looking forward to playing Betrayal At House... when the little one (s) are old enough.

Sorry for the long winded nature of this.

I'm in a pretty similar situation. Always played a lot of board/card games growing up; most of them were fairly standard (nothing wrong with that). I made a couple friends in college that really introduced me to more varied games, and I really had a blast playing a new game every week with them.

My wife and I have a couple friends who are into games too, so we try to make time once or twice a month to play. But I'm really grateful for two-player variants because it allows us to keep playing on our own. I've got a pretty lengthy list going too. Lots to get to eventually.

Also, once we were pretty comfortable with Normal, we thought, hey, let's crank it up to Elite (is that the highest? I forget the exact term)... and lost in what felt like three rounds. It was nuts. But good fun all around.

I think the key is that Island is a good intro game. It's easier to set up and play, easy to explain to newcomers, and a little easier to win if you're just looking for a casual game night. I like Desert more too, but I might not have enjoyed it if I hadn't started with Island.

My gf and I play Sentinels like every time we hang out now. Seriously, everyone, get it. It is the best, best game. 2, 3 and 4 players all rocks. Couldn't recommend it enough.

hopefully going to finally start pandemic legacy tonight.

We've played a few vanilla pandemic games on the board, so ideally if we win this one we'll continue onward and hopefully be able to play through it at a steady pace
