Battle Born and Sam's Town are both their best records and the ones you are most likely to like. @zmtr

Sam's Town is one of the best rock albums that I can think of. Just listen to it. Day & Age is vastly underrated and "Dustland Fairytale" is a top notch Killer's track. Battle Born is a little generic but still really great.

Im so hyped they are releasing new stuff soon! Battle Born wasnt my favorite, but was still solid. I'd say Day & Age is my favorite, but Sawdust has an amazing set of songs despite being a B-Side comp

The Killers are one of those bands that I've been intending to like for a long time. The ingredients are all things that I enjoy, but I'd never really clicked with them. At least, not until a few weeks ago.
I ended up going back to my college town for the first time since graduating. With law school doing what law school does (sucking my soul), I really needed to chase the wind a little and go back "home." I was a debater in undergrad, and this was the season championship that I was invited to judge in Ocean City, so I was heading back to see old profs and friends before spending the weekend at the beach with the people I used to compete against and drink with until the early hours. Anyway, I was sitting on the train flicking through my "albums to listen to when you have time" list, and saw Battleborn. Put it on. I was engaged from the get-go, but I really lost it in the call-and-response when Flowers said something about "boots and saddles." Our debate coach, and a big mentor of mine, passed away during my senior year of college. His big catch phrase was "boots and saddles." So I knew that the record was going to be special.
Everytime I was listening to a different track, since I didn't actually get to listen through the entire thing in one sitting, it was somehow perfectly tracking where I was in the weekend. "Runaways" -- the part about hair blowing in the summer wind -- came on as I was arriving back in my college town and seeing old flames and friends. "The Way it Was" came on as I was in the an on the way out to O.C. and learned that an old girlfriend, someone I thought I'd spend my life with, was going to be at the competition. We hadn't seen one another since our very messy andemotionally devistating breakup three years previous. I really haven't dated since. The chorus, and how it went into "here with me," was just heartbreaking.
The intro of "a matter of Time," that big introduction, was playing as Iwalked into the hotel of the loby and was surrounded by the people I've loved and worked becide for years. "Deadlines and Commitments," "Miss Attomic Bomb," and "The Rising Tide" were all soundtracking sitting around with old friends, catching up and having a drink, hearing what life had done to them. "From Here On Out" was running through my head as I watched the graduating seniors take their final round of applause before they went off into the next leg of their journeys. The title track was playing as we organized a polar plunge: twelve or thirteen of us, running and diving into the Atlantic at 1:00 in the morning, holding hands and screaming. It was the most peaceful my heart has been in forever.
I ended up seeing my old girlfriend again. We cgot to talk and say sorry -- it felt like a scene from How I Met Your Mother. We were standing outside at like 1:00 in the morning. She was smoking a cigarette, and I was drinking my bourbon, and she was telling me about her fiance, and I was smiling because I was happy for her, and I was catching the strains of "be still" from my iphone on the table just inside the open balcony door.
On the train ride home, after seeing everyone and reenergizing my batteries and feeling "good" for the first time in a long time, I ended up playing "the heart of a girl." That slow groove, that repetitive melody, it explained the place my heart finally was. I didn't realize how much I'd been holding the breakup and the goodbye and the loneliness. They were heavy, and I finally learned to put them down. At least for a little while. At least for a day or two. It was a place I could return to when the exams got too much and when the work got too hard and when the nights got too lonely. "I believe that we never have to be alone/yes I believe it's just around the bend/you can hold it in or you can scream it on a microphone/there is no end."

Mixing is usually the last stage of the recording process, right?

If so, Dave Fridmann posted news that he was mixing some killers songs on his website a few weeks ago.

Yep (besides mastering but that can take as little as a day), though it could only be a song or two. Even after mixing who knows how long it'll be until we get a record. Hopefully soon though!

    Maybe so, maybe not.

Is it just a fact that The Killers could never release a remotely popular song again and still headline festivals until the end of time? Don't get me wrong, I love The Killers and have seen them 7-8x. It's just crazy that for a band who hasn't a huge hit since Day & Age (almost 10 years!), they still headline every festival they play. They fit in that same mold of eternal headliners who haven't had a hit in a while with Kings of Leon and Mumford and Sons...granted The Killers are a lot better than both of those bands.

Battle Born didn't have a huge hit but I think it sold fairly well? Plus there are always new people discovering Hot Fuss
