I'm not really expecting one tbh but the NPR possibility does have me excited. I'm just happy it didn't leak like 2 months early.

Don't think NPR is happening. They usually post the First Listen streams by 7 AM.

Yeah really happy for these guys that it didn't leak early tbh would've been such a bummer if it had happened for like the 3rd time in a row

I'm realllllllly excited for the in-store next Thursday. Got an old gig poster from my favorite show of theirs to get signed, and took two days off of work to get out to Long Island for it, so it's a four day weekend to boot. Would love a stream so I can listen to it on the way out there.

That clip sounds absolutely dope. Whatever interview when Greg or Tom mentioned they wanted to make an album you could just put on a jukebox and play all the way through - that clip sounds exactly like it haha.

I feel like I may need to have a diner burger, fries, a soda, a shake, and my hair parted to properly take this record in to really get in that jukebox mindset. I'm ready for this album!

Either of these are acceptable. Hell, let's put some double cheeseburgers and fries on top of our pizzas. I feel like the awesomeness of this record is going to kill us waaaay faster than any heart problems sustained from the greasy food.

I know this is a loaded question, but is vinyl worth it? Again, not an easy answer, but I have little to no experience with and I don't know if I really see the point. It's a good way to support the band, but I would rather buy some other types of merch.

I just love the physical aspect of vinyl. I've acquired around 25 albums since I started collecting about 4 or 5 years ago, and they represent albums I have a really strong attachment to, so I really enjoy getting to see my financial and emotional investment in an album in a way that I can't do with purchasing MP3s, or CDs now with the medium on its way out (in cars, computers). Artwork has always been a big part of connecting me with an album as well.

I'm not sure "is it worth it" is the right question. It's how do you want to take in a physical form of media, if at all? I have a record player, but not a CD player, so that makes it pretty easy for me. Plus, there is something about the process of vinyl that I enjoy. It's also the first medium I heard music so there is nostalgia for sure. That said, I am pretty cautious about how much I put down on one vinyl. I think the prices have gotten out of whack for some records. In the Menzingers case, the new vinyl is $18 and the CD is $12. $18 is fine to me. I'm assuming shipping won't change much between the two as it's more about where you live since the weight is pretty nominal. The way I see it, the extra $6 nets me the digital as well as the vinyl. I'm ok with that. In terms of buying vinyl at shows, I really don't do it much. If I buy something it's usually a shirt, sweater, hoodie, etc. On this pre-order I threw in the sad reaper hoodie. There is still only a $6 difference ($36 versus $42) between the two hoodie packages. I guess this is a long-winded way of saying that vinyl shouldn't be too much more than a CD, and the extra difference can be associated with the digital throw-in. And in terms of vinyl versus CD packages, again, it's usually going to only be the difference in mediums, so it shouldn't really prevent you from getting other merch items.

I'm someone who knows next to nothing about vinyl/record players but I've gotten more curious lately. How much would a good quality record player set me back? Is there a big difference in quality as you go up in price?

Compiling a list of edits to make so I can just dive in and cross em off as I go and not feel too overwhelmed. Probably finished in two weeks or so and then I was thinking about entering some screenwriting contests with it to see what'll happen. And haha, no longer on the farm. Been traveling around and seeing some cool shit. Now fresh out the hospital in Thailand, recovering from pneumonia. I don't recommend it.

So you guys are talking about sitting down to this album with a pizza. I'll realistically have my first listen in a codeine haze. Not sure which is better, but I'm jealous of anyone who'll have a pbr.

Short answer is that it doesn't matter what kind of record player you have if you are starting out. My first player was one of my dad's extras from the late '70s. It still works fine. I currently have this: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B002S1CJ2Q/?tag=absolutepunk-20. It's the Audio-Technica LP120. In my research it seemed like the best value. It may not produce the best sound, but it's versatile and compares favorably to much more expensive machines. It looks like they've raised the retail price a little bit since I got mine. The main thing is getting some good speakers, stable floors, and setting your needle and arm correctly. For a couple bucks you can buy a cleaning kit that also helps keep dust and dirt away.

I don't have a record player, but I still buy vinyl over CDs. I rarely listen to anything that's not digital, so it doesn't really matter to me as long as I'm supporting the band. I choose vinyl over CDs because they look cooler and tend to retain their value more.

Good guy, but a bad dude

Ars-Technica's lowest priced player is like $100 but most people recommend the U-Turn turntable at the very least which will cost you approximately $200

I am such a sponge for all of these features the band is posting on FB or Twitter. I'll do a Google news search too. I have no shame. Anything to get a little more insight into the record. I'm trying to not expect a classic, but it sure seems to be trending that way.

I've been the same way these past few days. The reviews have been great across the board. Glad they're getting some hype coming into release day.

Still hopeful tomorrow is the day. I have a long weekend of chores at home and I would really love to blast this on repeat.

I hear you and the other folks on the stream, but I am cool waiting another week. I've made it this far. That said, if it does stream I will be playing it constantly.
