It is an element in a bigger picture, not saying it is just a scary game but has its moments that surpass the cliche ridden RE7 setting/plot.

Well again, I've played RE7 for myself, and the first hour and a half has been far far scarier than anything I've experienced during my six playthroughs of TLOU.

TLOU does tension really well but I wouldn't consider it a horror game.

Dead Space is hella scary though. Love that game.

Suffice to say: The definition of the term "scary" means something different to everyone.

Dead Space is the absolute antithesis of what makes anything scary for me. It is shocking how ineffective it really is. When you break that game down it is embarrasing. And the setups and pacing are summer horror flick pop out cliche to me.

    Scary games?

    The Park
    The Evil Within

Those are the scariest ones I've played that were ACTUALLY meant to be scary that is

I am automatically less scared in a game when my character has someone with them. There are a few moments in early Resi 7 with other characters and they were such a nice respite. One of the many reasons recent Resi have not been scary at all.

Well there we go then, you find one scary and one not but I find the averageness of everything besides the graphics and audio design distracting from anything potentially scary though the enemies being as weak (in terms of threat) as they are make that unlikely.

Lol the enemies are not weak. Was your movie playing it on easy?

I think that is what makes a game like Dead Space or Alien: Isolation so scary for some. The thought of literally being ALONE in space with these creatures. Its basically like being trapped in your own tomb.

Even Isolation had a few moments with other characters. Again those made terrified-me so happy.

I've only had to fight a lady with a chainsaw so far, had to put about 20 bullets into her. I wouldn't consider that "weak".

You played the Evil Within? That sort of surprises me since it's pretty action heavy!

I don't even want to post in spoiler tags what happens in that fight, but that was one of the moments where I laughed with unadulterated joy. Can't believe that happened.

I will go down saying Alien: Isolation so far has been the "scariest" for me personally. The music alone is amazing in that respect and the first time the Alien is literally standing two feet from you...I am almost peed my pants. (It was a combination of "OMG I am going to die" and my inner nerd coming out)

Talking about the general enemies, the ones that never really group together and go down easy with a shotgun to the head. They have no tactics that are unpredictable and never swarm, offers no tension and offers little threat. Most I have seen together is four and at that point an old and powerful shotgun, grenade launcher and .44 Magnum was available which were super strong.

The Evil Within is great and pretty scary in places. I haven't played Alien: Isolation yet, but it's been sat on my shelf for the past year or so. I might finally play it once I'm finished with RE7.

Yeah that game was scary as hell. At times it did ruin the pace a bit when I couldn't figure out where to go or what to do, but that could have easily been my fault for being dumb. And it actually had a somewhat interesting first person protagonist, which rarely happens.

The Evil Within scares me because I'm fucking garbage at that game and when you die you go back a decent way so I really don't want to die.

I love Alien: Isolation and it's definitely a favorite of mine (though part of that could be bias because my deep love of the movies). My only minor complaints would be the save system and length.

It's funny, one of the biggest complaints of the game was it's length. I for one don't mind a game that is longer and keeps me engaged. It served both of those needs for me. To each their own right? :-)

Evil Within mixed the survival horror from old school Resi and the action from Resi 4. In a perfect world it would have been the successor to Resi 4 and the series never would have been shitty.
