Blue Sky Research is such a great album by Taproot and I'd argue the first 3 Seether albums are great, but they fell right off a cliff after.

 

Can't come around to Tom Waits.

 

i cannot stand his voice

 

Me neither and it makes me sad.

 

I fucking desperately want to. I even like Rain Dogs somewhat, but man, took me three sessions to finish Bone Machine; just felt like a chore. Percussion-heavy, atonal, minimal, dark/dreary, elements of the deep deep south while at the same time Stomp, it should work for me, but I just can't do it.

I listened to Welcome the other day actually

 

Like with the National or something, sure, unconventional voice, but at least Matt really only sings that one way. Waits has a deceptively large register, tons of falsetto followed immediately by this chasm-deep growl; every single note within it is unconventional.

Mostly a fan of Tom Waits words. Some songs musically catch me but I've always just appreciated his lyrics the most.

I've tried on Tom Waits too but I think it's his voice that turns me off. I can tell he writes good songs because there are many covers of his that I like.

 

to be fair tho: (almost) no one listens to him for the first time and is really enamored with his voice

 

very sheepishly so this site doesn't throw garbage at me

I don't like Matt's voice, Tom Waits took me awhile but once it clicked it was worth it

 

so is Matt's

 

matts voice is just deep. toms is terrible

 

"Jaded" by Aerosmith is a genuinely great song and one of the band's best.

 

Love that song!

My Aerosmith "Hot Take" is that their cover of Come Together is better than The Beatles.
But to be fair the first time I ever heard that song was the encore at my first concert ever so I have that memory attached to it.

 

yeah well Tom Waits is avant garde and you don't like it. The human voice can be treated as more of an instrument. I wish I knew of more artists willing to embrace such an idea. Bjork and Tom Waits immediately come to mind.

 

i just listened to Tom Waits i think for the first time and his voice sounds like pretty normal. like identifiable for sure but not surprising
