Yeah I'm just imagining playing it without any hook at all to the narrative otherwise and thinking the experience would be really bad tho.

What story beats they are keep me going through the monotony.

but also the rest of the series is superb and everyone should play it too. Feel like it's one of the series outside of control scheme that has aged super well.

The prequel to MGSV, Ground Zeroes, was very very cheap on PSN recently - I got it for UK £3.99!!! - so perhaps try that before MGSV as it is the exact same game engine, same characters & storyline etc. However, there are still 2 games before that in the overall story timeline! They are all so good though - my only criticism being their trash over-sexualisation of female characters.

 

I would say Peacewalker is a lot less necessary to playthrough before.

 

I'm at like 90 hours was going to try and 100% but a couple missions I didn't feel like playing through again. Like the 45 min prologue.

 

Disagree slightly that it ignores any lore (it re-develops some parts and helps us see other games in a different light!), but the 'vocal chord parasites' storyline is pretty weak for sure and is the only storyline of any MGS game that doesn't contribute to the big picture.

 

You can skip a lot of the cutscenes in that! Takes about 15mins overall. If you do try to 100%, I recommend using IGN's walkthrough for difficult parts. Some of the little mission tasks would be impossible without it.

 

I haven't got a S rank yet :(

 

Oh well, I've lost the motivation now.

 

It's literally all about trying to complete the mission in under 15mins! Some missions can be done in 3mins, even the Sahelanthropus one!

This is one of only a handful of games I've ever 100%ed - I'm never usually one to go for trophies/achievements but I do for my all-time fav games! Haven't actually got 100% on the trophies for MGSV this 2nd time, just have to build & dismantle a nuke to get the last 2 I need.

 

MGS1(10/10) > MGS3 (9.5/10) > MGS2 (9.0/10) > MGS4 (9.0/10) > MGS5 (8.0/10 so far)

 

That's the only numbered msg game I haven't beaten. I swear every time I'd boot it up I'd play for a bit then get some hour long cutscene and then turn it off. Lol

 

I loved MGS4 outside of the valkyries stuff.

 

It's awful. You don't need to sit through the long cutscenes here because the story is garbage and retroactively cheapens the entire series.

the part in MGS4 where you go back to Shadow Moses is the best part of the whole series IMO. When you go to certain areas and get the flashbacks to MGS1, all the while that song is playing, is amazing.

 

I just had someone in ranked on my team who would try and score own goals just so the game could go into overtime.

like the dude knew if he took a shot the ball would go into our own net. EVERYTIME he scored into our net he would do the what a goal text. I hate him. He is lucky we won in OT.

 

Yeah I loved MGS 2 when it came out for the Xbox. I was obsessed for a year with that game. Probably beat it 4 times. Never was able to play 3 cuz no PS2. Then bought a PS3(before it broke) to play 4. Was very disappointed. Went back, and played 1 with BC. Thought it was great, but also didn't beat it. Found out how 4 ties into 1 at the end, and was kinda mad I didnt get to that section. I really really enjoyed V. Like more than I thought I would. Though the story was bland, and that last Quiet mission where they throw a shit ton of tanks at you I hard quit.

Lovely series though.

that game is the only time it ever felt like Kojima was pandering to lowest common denominator and nostalgia. in my opinion. absolutely no disrespect to those who enjoyed. and it ruined the story arc and characters especially Raiden the best character
