Thinking about doing Poe, let me know your thoughts. Just picked up Black Panther too! Love how the digital copy comes with it.

    Which Spidey are you reading?

Spider-Man by Bendis and Pichelli. It's the Miles Morales series, now set in the main universe.

Read We Are Robin Vol. 1 today. Another one that I'll have a review up for soon. If anyone here is interested in reviewing comics at all, more than welcome to write for HiFi Noise. Just hit me up if you're interested. The site is just myself and a few friends who contribute once in a while.

Do all Marvel comics come with digital copies now? Just got Black Panther and redeemed it on my iPad Pro and it's exactly the same size as the comic book.

I just subscribed to Marvel Unlimited. It's so good, I can't believe I haven't signed up before!

I'm going through all of the old Harley trades that Terry Dodson did the art for. Absolutely love his art. I was so mad Red One got canceled so quickly.

The Dodson duo are definitely some of my favorite art, especially for Harley.

They were my biggest reason for picking up Princess Leia. I've love to get a Red Sonja drawing of his.

Not all accurate. Killing Joke was originally an out of continuity Original Graphic Novel. Bolland had the idea and pitched it to Moore and DC.
It was only after the huge success that other writers and DC decided to bring it into continuity.

I really, really want a Spider-Man emoji. Hopefully Twitter makes one for Jason to hijack soon!

That doesn't really contradict anything I said, though. It wasn't originally meant to be in continuity (and has had a fluid relationship with continuity since then), but when it was included, they had no intentions of saving Barbara as a character until the writers of Suicide Squad jumped in. And, those words were how permission to use her that way was given.

No matter how you cut it, The Killing Joke followed a highly problematic trope of brutalizing and discarding a female character so she can be a prop in a narrative for male characters. If you can get enjoyment out of the story anyways, cool, but that treatment of Barbara is too troubling for me to get past, and I know I'm not alone. I'd be happy to let that story become a relic of the past.

Is Barbara Gordon a "woman stuffed in a fridge"? Very possible. I don't really enjoy Killing Joke that much but I do recognize it as an important piece of comic book history. I don't love Watchmen that much either. Alan Moore's treatment of women in books is certainly questionable.

On the plus side the story has gone away essentially with the relaunch of New 52, Batgirl of Burnside, etc.

I liked Killing Joke, granted I read it many years back. But I don't think I could stomach reading it for the first time now. I think there's a good story in there but the Barbara thing turns me off it.

If I wanted to start Black Panther, is there any books I should catch up on first?

Wait, are we agreeing? 'Cause I thought we weren't, and now I think we are, and it's weird. lol.

Ta-Nehisi Coates has been saying on Twitter that people can just dive into his first issue and be fine; I haven't had time to read my comics yet, but I'd imagine that's true. Pretty much all Marvel #1s anymore work hard at building off of what's come before while remaining accessible to newbies.

That being stated, if you want more of the character, I definitely recommend the Black Panther run by Christopher Priest. I've only read roughly a third of it, but what I've read of it is great. For a decent crash course on the character, the trade Who is the Black Panther? by Hudlin and Romita Jr. is pretty good, too. Black Panther: Man Without Fear is high on my to-read list, so I'll be able to tell you how I feel about that soon. Also, if you haven't read Hickman's New Avengers series, leading into Secret Wars, it's great and prominently features Black Panther.

YES YES YES. It's going to be so dark and melodramatic and awesome, just like the comics, lol. No chance that Spider-Man has any part in this, but I wonder if they'll let anyone from Netflix show up.

I agree it was more wishful thinking than anything lol. RE: Netflix show characters, don't you think those characters would feel weird in what I assume the tone of this show will be? I'm basing that solely off the network it's going to air on, also I've never seen any of the netflix shows so there's also that.

I was just saying I'm not sure the aftermath of Killing Joke was what the book originally intended. But I don't much care for it. Joker doesn't need an origin.

Daredevil falls tonally between Arrow and House of Cards, and I'm guessing this will fall between Arrow and Pretty Little Liars. I'd say that's close enough for them to meet halfway. I wouldn't be surprised if they decided to limit the overlap to a throwaway line in the one mentioning the other, but from a purely creative perspective, it'd make sense.

If it wasn't, the treatment of Barbara, a character defined from day one by her agency, for the sake of Batman, Gordon, and Joker's story is too egregious for me, especially as a big fan of Batgirl. Plus, whether that was the creative team's intent or not, that's what it became. There are just too many negatives, and the only interesting aspect was done (in my opinion) better in Batman: Hush.

If you don't like Joker getting an origin, I imagine you're not too interested in Justice League #50 and DC: Rebirth, lol.

Thank you! Also thank you for reminding me. My biggest issue with comics is I always forget when they're out. I'd love like a calendar add on with push notifications to let me know when my fave books come out.

We'll see. I'm cautious about Rebirth because it is still the same guys at the top who did New 52 (Dan Didio, Bob H, etc.) I dropped off JL I while back. If Rebirth really is about these characters getting their legacy back I might be into it. Tom King on Batman and Scott Snyder's All Star Batman look great (hope there is a lot of Jock artwork), Rucka back to Wonder Woman, some of the others look cool. Hope they can figure out some direction with Superman.
