I can't imagine myself ever caring about the story of a Mario game unless it follows the story of The Super Mario Bros. Super Show.

 

Mario constantly innovates in terms of gameplay though, they're really not the same games with minor details. I'd say they're more different than any Uncharted or Gears game is.

 

Mario is about level design and mechanics, the story is secondary at best, always was

 

Apparantly some of the Mario RPG's have great stories but I haven't played any long enough to know.

 

Well yeah I mean platformers

 

I wouldn't say any of the Mario RPG stories are necessarily great (maybe Super Mario RPG) but the Paper Mario and Mario and Luigi series each have pretty excellent worldbuilding, really funny and clever writing and a surprisingly memorable cast of characters.

but for Mario platformers, nobody gives a shit about their story

 

Mario and Luigi: Partners in Time is the only one I've played but I loved it.

 

When I was a kid I was very invested in Sunshine's story haha

 

I think my investment was finding out whether or not Bowser Jr. was Peach's kid because wtf no way

 

Thinking about it and Galaxy's Rosalina's Storybook was simple but effective as an origin for this new character that we knew nothing about. So yeah, there are good story moments in Mario platformers, I was a bit harsh before.

 

3D mario games are frigging great yo

 

They're the best!

 

The "stories" are good in that they are charming and form a basis for great characters and to a certain extent world building. If you expect some mind blowing narrative you're obviously playing the wrong game... though I do think you probably should look outside of video games for that anyway.

 

Shadow Mario was such a dick

 

The Super Mario 3D World for Wii U might have been my favorite game on the whole system. It was so damn hard at the end but I played the hell out of it.

 

Anyone seen Snipperclips? Looks pretty fun.

 

There are definitely some worthwhile stories in games these days. Stuff like Gone Home and Witcher 3 & its expansions have had me pretty engaged in their stories. Also I was more concerned with what happened at the end of The Last Guardian than I have been the majority of movies I've seem.

 

Yeah looks like a really fun time. I like that it's $20 too, I'll be buying it for sure.

 

Cant wait for Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door on VC

 

I wonder when they'll talk about VC stuff.

 

I'm really looking forward to see what they do within that price range. games that are relatively inexpensive and fun to play with friends will be a huge hit.

 

Paper Mario is great.

 

I wish they would make a Paper Mario more like the first and TTYD. Sticker Star was awful and I haven't heard great things about Color Splash

 

if this game isn't on the VC for the Switch. The console is basically one big failure.
