There's being critical, and then there's the the level of hate the switch has gotten without anyone even touching one. So far, the only glaring issue has been the online functionality. Other than that, I'm surprised at the reception of this, when just a week ago everyone was praising it and how excited they were for it. Yes, the initial game library is lacking, but so was the PS4.

I didn't say they were mistakes and the things they tried with the Wii weren't mistakes then and they worked out very well for them, especially financially, but I don't think those same ideas will work today with a new console. The Wii U was almost all mistakes. They've been doing great with their handhelds which is why I was, and still am, hoping that they were going to merge the two here and just have one console although so far Nintendo have been saying they're not doing that, the 3DS will still be an ongoing system and they'll keep handheld/console development separate. If that's true I'll be hugely disappointed but it could just be the usual crap companies say about their old consoles being relevant when they introduce new ones.

The 3DS and Switch can coexist just fine honestly. I still think the largest downfall of the Wii U was the naming and confusion of if it was a new separate console or a wii expansion. With an actual new console with a name that won't confuse some people (i.e. Parents), plus a long list of support from developers, I do think the Switch will do well.

The "the 3DS is still a thing" line is marketing nonsense. They do it every time in case the new system tanks miserably. They did the same thing with the GBA: the DS was initialy marketed as a "third pillar, but then the DS blew up and the GBA was killed so damn fast. Add that to the fact that old handhelds always have some steam left in them in Japan and you end up with that sentence. Unless disaster strikes, the Switch is the new handheld.

Honestly I'm just annoyed and disappointed. I thought we were finally done with boring motion control bullshit and the shovelware that comes with them and I was hoping for so much more from this. The launch is awful but so is the next year and with how few games have been coming out for Wii U for the past couple of years I was hoping they'd been working on getting a lot of stuff ready for the Switch. The controller price is super disappointing too since I figure most people will want a pro controller which means the console will be $370 really. The PS4 launch wasn't good either but I was critical of that too and didn't get one of those until Bloodborne came out. I don't hate the Switch though, I still think there's cool aspects of it, I think I'm more disappointed because of how excited I was, ha.

  6. Taken out of context, this almost looks like you two are arguing about how to react to the results of the election.

The best Wii U game last year was a remaster of a ten year old game. The defensiveness of Nintendo every time everyone has an issue with it is so confusing.

I'm glad there's context because that's an entirely different circumstance that feels weird to compare to a video game console debate

Anyways, finished Rise of the Tomb Raider yesterday. Really enjoyed it, and am excited to see where they go for the sequel. Watch Dogs 2 comes in the mail today, very excited to start that!

I think Rise of the Tomb Raider is next up for me, I've had it sitting here for a couple months now.

Did they talk about another Tomb Raider? Because this one did not do all too well, although that might just be part of the larger trend

Jumping in here, but how on earth do you guys not stress out on online competitive games?

I've always been used to local such as smash, but for some reason I get so anxious when playing online. Not that I'm not having fun, but I can't really play for too long without taking a break.

I only assumed they were going to since this one ended with what seemed like a setup for a sequel. I do hope another one is made.

I have stopped caring about anything else except enjoying myself, which ironically made me become better at most competitive games

Booo phoenix mode, classic is where it's at.

Just slightly joking. Need to get Firewatch. Did you play The Witness and Inside? I haven't played both yet but they were among my most anticipated last year (why I haven't played them yet is not the topic here).

As someone who loves SMT, loves Fire Emblem (though I know the FE elements aren't particularly prominent), probably my biggest failure in regards to gaming last year was not playing Tokyo Mirage Sessions.

I skipped Inside because it doesn't appeal to me, although I'm sure it is great. I'm not going to play Witness because I know I'm absolutely horrible at those kinds of puzzles.

Oh I love Phoenix mode so much. I lets me play like a crazy person.

I definitely still need to pick up Tokyo Mirage Sessions.

I would hurry because I doubt they made a lot of copies. It's really fun.

I'm not someone who has had expectations from or excitement about Nintendo since...after the GameCube came out when I was 11. I didnt like the GC at all because of a lack of software for me to care about. Nintendo Switch doesn't floor me. I feel like I might buy one at some point though. Which is something, given I haven't owned a Nintendo since GC (3ds is amazing though and I've been close to getting one before). Playing that Mario on a tablet sized thing is cool and I have a lot of money to throw around now. I can't get rid of the suspicion that when I get one, I'll likely only end up using it for 3 or so games though.

The hardware looks wonky but I wonder really what the weight and thickness of the tab is. If its thin and light I might be delighted to have one. If its not, its a complete deal breaker. Do we have specs on that?

I think its is comparable to how a 3DS XL feels, maybe a little better in terms of how it fits your hand. The Waypoint people that attended the event said that it feels like a high end gadget, not a toy, if that makes sense.
