Not an opinion so much as a fact but I've never listened to a single Van Morrison album.

My high school didn't have anything too controversial while I went there. Some cray shit like our star athlete/actually all around good guy dropping dead of a heart attack after a wrestling match. Think that went national actually, the day after was the strangest day of school I ever witnessed.

Just recently the spanish teacher/soccer coach got arrested and fired for having sex with a student. He plead guilty but will only serve one month in jail because the world is fucked.

lullabies to paralyze is the best QOTSA record and i'd probably put two others also ahead of songs for the deaf

    Evolution not revolution

    “Jurrassic Five” an Retrospective

Formed in in 1993 from members of two previous groups, “Rebels of Rhythm” and “Unity Committee” by rappers Charles Stewart (Chali 2na), Dante Givens (Akil), Courtenay Henderson (Zaakir), Marc Stuart (Marc 7), and DJ’s Mark Potsic (DJ Nu-Mark) and Lucas Macfadden (Cut Chemist) it’s fair to say this group were “Old Skool” Revivalists from a different time when mainstream hip hop followed different rules; where a sample didn’t get used purely to get instant hits and shift units alone but was also meant as a tribute and respect to the record and artists sampled. DJ’s Nu Mark and Cut Chemist put together incredible tracks with funk bass and jazz flutes over tight beats sampled form their extensive record collection – ie REAL Dj’s. Also the band wrote clever street wise poetry, which despite it’s positive vibes and message was still hard-core in essence. Personally I think this band had some of the best displays of rhythmic word play and mastery of vocab over some of the tightest sounds and excellent DJ work, production and scratching. They sound like Hip Hop should have kept sounding and in an ideal world would sound now!

There was also a fair “Doo-Wop” influence on their raps seen most clearly on their first self-titled album – an actual combination of two EP’s put together to form an complete album – AND on their song “The Influence” on “Quality Control” and unlike when Artists like “Jay-Z” attempts it these guys could really sing and harmonise.

In 2002’s the band released “Power in Numbers”. Although not my favourite album, two of my favourite songs from their career are on this album, the sublime “Thin Lines” – featuring pre “promiscuous” “Nelle Furtardo”- about the trouble of developing romantic feelings for friend’s girls and the straight up funk of “Sum of us”. BUT as of whole the beats and sound collages were just nowhere near as good and even with four of the best MC’s going, without a great beat you’re just treading water. I’m not entirely sure what was wrong but to me the funky was gone and the hooks just weren’t as strong.

Somewhere between The 3rd album and 2006’s “Feedback” DJ Cut Chemist left the band to focus on his solo career and again in my opinion the music really suffered for it. “Feedback” was released in 2006 and this was sadly to be their last album before the group split up citing “Musical Differences”. Here they tried to unsuccessfully go even further back to an era of “SugarHill”, “Spoonie G” and the electro funk of “GrandMaster Flash” and the era. The problem was there’s a zeitgeist and you can only move forward or fall flat on your face. To me it simply didn’t work and I don’t like even one song from this album. So there you go J5 from 1993 – 2006 RIP you will be greatly missed.

Ah, alrighty, unpopular opinion time - I absolutely loved The Connection and F.E.A.R.

No, I'm just an idiot. I actually really liked The Connection and forgot about it. The whole album is solid but Still Swinging, Where Did the Angels Go, Wish You Never Met Me and Give Me Back My Life are all great songs. It's F.E.A.R. that I didn't like, IMO this band is best when its just straight rock and needs to drop the electronic stuff. For some reason I thought there was another bad album in there somewhere, but I guess F.E.A.R is just it...

Never listened to Pulp before. Listening to Different Class now, it's good. I don't think this is the thread for this, but idk where else to put it. I don't know about it being a highmark in 90s rock music or whatever, but it's good.

two of the songs are pretty widely regarded as top songs of the decade but idk about the album as a whole. they're so great.
