Yeah, you have a point. On his first two albums his voice didn't sound like that really. I wonder if its because he's been away from Staind since like 2011 and this is just what he'd adapted to since it seems to be his full time thing now.

 

He's essentially pulled a Kid Rock.

The lyrics and melody are awful. And he's definitely forcing out some country twang.

But yeah, I always wondered with KR doing stripped down country songs style songs, how do songs like Bawatchabaw or American Badass fit in to his set live?

Anyway, back to a good artist you should check out Always Summer and Country Boy from Aaron Lewis for sure.

Man, Lewis' first album The Road is way better. I've always been a fan of the slide guitar and it's nailed here. Lewis' voice is amazing on this album, also. Endless Summer is the song I'm talking about.

 

For the past couple of days I don't think we're even talking about unpopular stuff, haha. This has turned into a nostalgia thread going back to the mid 90's and now nu-metal.

Agreed, but most people look at 90s and nu-metal as cheesy and bad right? I've also noticed a lot of people on here have stopped posting so I think they are still unpopular lol

 

To people over age 30, nu-metal was just another genre that was popular when we were in our late teens...so it was awesome.

I've found myself constantly going back to older music just to get away from some of the new crap that keeps getting put out.

 

I'm a fan of the bands that were able to push through the nu metal label and still put out good stuff like P.O.D. and Papa Roach (even though their last two releases have been pretty rough. Getting Away with Murder, Paramour Sessions and Metamorphosis were great rock records though)

What about the harder side of nu-metal like Ill Nino or 40 Below Summer? There was another band, that I'm blanking on, but their album cover had grotesque artwork that included 2 or 3 bloated, cartoonish half naked dudes. I dunno, it was weird, but they were good.

 

You could have stopped at the word 'albums'.

 

My dad always raved about Cocteau Twins and I never gave them a proper listen until recently. The title track is too good for words

 

After watching a lot of these nu-metal videos, what was the fascination of lead singers not using microphones and being very dramatic with their body language? Goddamn I miss the the early 2000's haha.
