I still kind of like the theory that Rey turns to the Dark Side and Kylo Ren redeems himself to defeat her. Don't know how they'd adequately convey that over the course of the next two films, or whether it's even possible for Ren to redeem himself after killing his father, but it'd be an interesting reversal.

haha wow. That would be amazing. But with the recent heroine vibe going on, I doubt they'd completely nullify that.

The book Bloodline negates that theory.

By the time they're ready to release more mainline entries in the future, I would be really excited if it were possible to do them as a series instead of films. Like with the same budget just with more time to flesh events and characters out since it's a series. Idk if that could ever happen. Maybe entries in the distant future. I believe that in this current era, with everything that's happened with the medium, audiences might prefer a series over a trilogy of films now or at some point.

What is it instead? What more do we know about the overall plot from that book? Care to divulge?

Bb-8 is Rey's dad, this is canon

It does not give answers about Rey. It simply established a time frame of when Ben goes bad. That plus seeing such a young Rey being left on Jakku, just based on the timeline, her being a child during Ben's turn is impossible.

Well, impossible without time travel. But, I don't think Star Wars will ever go there.

I'm being vague because I'd rather not totally spoil the book. It's a great read and I highly recommend it, it is a fantastic Leia story.

If you would like me to PM you more details, let me know.

Having read all the supplemental material up until this point, I am nearly 100% positive that Luke isn't Rey's father. This is pretty much evident from the book Bloodline as well.

I disagree. All that Bloodline would prove is that Luke is not with Rey during that book or perhaps he does not know about her existence.

Personally I am not sure if they are related. But there is no canon info that proves it one way or the other, yet.

Maybe. But that is not canon at this point.

Honestly at this point I'm hoping Rey's parents are just two random people. Anticlimactic? Maybe. But never during watching TFA did I wonder who her parents are, and I was surprised when everybody was. To me it's better than having her being related to either Han and Kylo (makes no sense given their interactions) or Luke (too predictable).

I feel that if they DO go the route of her being a Skywalker or somebody important's child, then that's just enough to put me over the edge of too much throwback to the original series. I've never once yet felt that way about TFA, I thought they found a perfect mix of original material and nods to the OG series. That'd be overkill for me. Let's go with her parents died, Luke took her in as a student, everybody got slaughtered, Luke hid her away.

Again, timeline wise, Rey could not have been around Luke during Ben's turn. She was already Jakku for many years before that happened.

Wait what? I'm not sure of what you're referring to by Ben's turn?

By leaving out Rey's last name (in a universe where everyone's last name is spoken), I was rubbed the wrong way. It's like they're teasing us subliminally by leaving that tiny little aspect out.

Even win Finn, that was misleading. His name is technically FN, but since he's black, everyone assumed he was probably Lando's kid.

I remember reading awhile back some theories that Rey is either a reincarnated Anakin, or Anakin's secret twin that was kept in cryosleep for decades. Are we still entertaining those theories?

well since it was part of the drama of the original trilogy, the writers seem to feel that that is a hallmark or the essence of star wars.

it really doesn't bother me at all I actually kinda just can't believe that they would put so much stock in it in the script now that I'm thinking about it

to me and others, the intrigue star wars were the worlds, the weird creatures, the ships. the trash room of the death star, the sand people being the weirdest things in cinema living rural life's but with high tech rifles, the mystifying Jawas driving stolen Empire equipment and torturing sentient droids, jabbas drug palace. Again It's mystifying. It's interesting to watch on screen.

my favorite part of TFA is when an alien pops it's head out over a dune

Honestly I've thought about that theory and I think it could be really cool if done correctly. But of course, it would be very difficult for many fans to accept Ben as a protagonist after killing Han... it'd be really interesting to see how they would even pull off that transition.

Dont think that's possible by a stretch. No way they'd have time to make that feel believable.

Oh yeah it's definitely a huge reach. I was mostly saying it'd be an interesting/ballsy move. Do I think they'll do it? Almost certainly not.

I'm thinking she's a Kenobi. They are doing a lot with Obi-Wan Kenobi in Rebels and the comics and the report that they haven't announced a solo movie because his story is not finished in the Saga films points to him being important. Throw in the line from Force Awakens said by Ewan McGregor, "These are her first steps" at the end of the Force vision and I think the seeds are being sewn. I love the idea of the story of this trilogy being the granddaughter of Obi-Wan vs the grandson of Anakin. Plus he has loved before with Satine, I think it's not a reach or outside the character to say he found love while on Tatooine and that family eventually leads to Rey.

The way I read your post was that Rey was with Luke when Kylo Ren killed all of the other Jedi under Luke. Is that correct?
