Yea I forgot about the last Saw movie, ugh.

Oh, there is a new Amityville! The Belko Experiment seems cool.

  2. Looking forward to Split, A Cure for Wellness, Get Out, The Belko Experiment, and Alien: Covenant.

Skeptical but curious about Annabelle 2, Flatliners, Saw: Legacy, and IT.

Not at all confident in The Bye Bye Man, Rings, or Insidious 4,

Bye Bye Man might be cool but that name does not give me any hope

    but does it djent?

The name is weird but the concept is cool and I might enjoy that.

I'm done with PG-13 horror. Seriously, what has been good recently with a PG-13 rating?

  7. I loved 10 CLoverfield Lane and Conjuring 2. Also enjoyed Ouija 2, The Shallows, and Lights Out. Pretty sure Final Girls from 2015 was PG-13 too, and I loved that.

EDIT: nvm Conjuring 2 was R. I remember scratching my head about that rating too when it came out.

    Touche...goddamnit.

    Well, except for Lights out.

    Cloverfield Lane was a thriller.

    Haven't seen The Shallows.

    Ouija 2 was tolerable.

    Conjuring 2 was rated R.

So basically, Final Girls was a good PG-13 movie. Mainly because I have a thing for the Farmiga sisters.

  9. I guess The Shallows is more of a thriller than horror as well, but I'm pretty lenient with genre labels. In general I'm also more interested in a R horror over a PG-13 one, but I don't discount them automatically.

Yea I don't necessarily have specific assumption going into any horror movie based on the rating alone because honestly, there has been shit R rated stuff more than good R rated stuff.

Also, what makes it an R in the first place? An extra "fuck" or a female nipple makes its way out of some poor girls shirt mid-killing?

  12. Ya more than one "fuck" or blatant nudity will guarantee an R rating. As for violence, usually it's easy to tell the difference between PG-13 and R levels of violence, but the line has been blurred in recent years it feels like. It's an odd phenomenon that nudity/language are still more taboo than gratuitous violence, at least in the US.

I don't have any sort of snobby attitude towards PG-13 films (not at all saying you do, @RonandTammy) but I do feel that it precludes certain films from what they could have been, if that makes sense. it just kinda feels like a product that's been sapped of what made it special in some cases. obviously there are exceptions but it just feels that way a lot of the time to me

Look back in the 80's and you have some flicks with nudity that were a PG rating...but that's because -13 didn't exist yet.

Bottom line is that the ratings are somewhat stupid in the first place. Two or three "fucks" gives you an R, same with a female nipple, or a bit too much blood.

I think what I don't like are the horror movies that are filled with the "MTV type" of cast.

I gave Texas Chainsaw Massacre (2003) a try today and I was pleasantly surprised. The "town is complicit" trope is something I always enjoy in horror movies.

Raw is my most anticipated of 2017 so far. Followed by Alien: Covenant. Rings looks good.

Split is getting really good reviews so far, definitely feels like M. Night is returning to form.

I have high hopes for this. The trailers look great. James MvAvoy looks to put in one a hell of a performance. Plus I'm looking forward to seeing the rise of Anya Taylor Joy.

I'm cautiously optimistic about Split, because The Visit appeared to be a return to form as well and I wasn't too impressed.

The scene under the house in The Visit was easily one of the most uncomfortable things I've seen recently. The lack of a loud soundtrack behind it made it more startling.

The Bye Bye Man trailer made me lol prety hard. All the buildup to that name. It reminds me of an 05 PG13 horror flick, which makes me a bit nostalgic

Split looks like it's going to be too hammy and typical for me, but i haven't seen the visit yet so maybe i'm misjudging

I remember seeing somewhere that The Bye Bye Man was originally rated R. What a shame

I'm most looking forward to Get Out and Split

Three of the best movies of 2015 were The Visit, Krampus, and The Final Girls, so I have no problem with PG-13 horror. The problem is wide release movies made specifically for a high school audience
