That Hotelier album is my favorite album of the year, but i also don't know that it's "easy to find."

The lyrics are great and the ambition appreciated and hell, it cracked my top 40, but Goodness just never resonated with me the way I wanted it to. "Soft Animal" is song of the year, though, and "Piano Player" slaps.

Great underrated/overlooked albums from this year (either this list or some other sites): White Lung, Creative Adult, From Indian Lakes, Nothing, Beach Slang, Gates, American Football, True Widow, Somos, Fury (granted..), Nails, Preoccupations, Silver Snakes, Dowsing, Chris Staples, Emma Ruth Rundle, Alcest, Look Mexico, You Blew It!, Hesitation Wounds, Owen, Dinosaur Jr., Greys, Lust for Youth, Young and Heartless, Frameworks, Pity Sex, Eagulls, Porridge Radio, Personal Space

It was also probably the token emo album (outside of modern baseball) that every major publication discussed this year

It's huge here and it was covered at Pitchfork, Spin and like every other major pub.

Not to mention tons of podcasts from non-scene or whatever media groups. It's a huge record.

  14. I wish it was huge, deserved to be ... it barely sold anything though.

"huge" no longer means sales to me personally

yeah, that record got a lot more critical publicity than many many many records that sold far better. i'm sure the band is very fine with that, helps with ticket sales, and hotelier especially is a band that care about the art they made far more, so as long as that's appreciated and they can continue what they're doing, they're happy.

I thought this list was really great. I didn't participate because I felt a little out-of-touch this year and didn't want to skew anything with a smaller sample size. But my 5 favorite albums were:

    Pinegrove
    Balance and Composure
    Modern Baseball
    All Get Out
    Blink-182

My faves that didn't make the list were:

Posture & The Grizzly - I Am Satan
From Indian Lakes - Everything Feels Better Now
    Tiny Moving Parts - Celebrate

The Hotelier's show here sold pretty poorly (didn't sell out a 100 cap venue) but don't they draw much larger numbers on the east coast? I'm sure they're doing fine with their current fanbase and I know it'll grow still
