Hey, didn't you all want Rogue One to expand the Star Wars universe? Now we know Vader makes puns! ;)

Saw that earlier, it's a pretty spot on impersonation of Jedi Council (though I do enjoy that show from time to time), right down to the always forgetting to drink away from the mic.

I really hope they do this as a recurring bit. They need to do one for the next Marvel movie. And a DC one would probably be perfect.

I've still only seen this once and I doubt I'll see it in theaters again, but the more I think about this movie the more I like it

Could not get through that video and found it way too snarky/rude. Like the film or dislike it, it's your opinion and it's fine, but don't attack others for theirs. It's unnecessary to go after those shows, like Jedi Council, with pretty heavy/biting criticism and no evidence beyond differing opinions.

The Jedi Council digs were apparent but I took it more as a criticism of those kinds of slavish fanboy podcasts based on paid-for trips to screenings in general. It doesn't just apply to Star Wars, it applies to a lot of big-budget fanboy communities. And I love the Schmoes channel, by the way.

Yea, I mean, Collider weren't the only ones who got the early viewing stuff.

Heroes is the best show on Collider! Not sure how that relates to anything, but I had to get that off my chest.

Satire always has a point/target. RLM's point was to criticize podcasts and shows that they feel are too fanatical and will say only good things about the Star Wars films because they are not objective as fans and because they get to see it early. The only actual evidence to back up these claims given for calling them not objective is they enjoyed the last 2 Star Wars films. Implying you can't be a good critic if you liked them or your opinion is just that of a fanboy is very arrogant and you're attacking not only the people you're attempting to satire but the fans who enjoy the films as well. And by that logic, all professional critics cannot be trusted because they see films early or can't be fans of franchises and are definitely not trustworthy to provide objective reviews on anything. Plus I haven't seen a blind love for this film anywhere. There's been lots of critical analysis from the very shows this is spoofing, it's just that despite some of those flaws they still enjoyed the movie. This reads as a group who doesn't like the new movies and that's fine, it's their opinion but they are taking it out on those who did enjoy it. That's great that the Jedi Council team thought it was funny, but this feels like it's attacking those who enjoy those films and podcasts as well by saying they're dumb for liking them.

So, first of all, that's not what they're saying. They're criticizing how select media personalities are cherry-picked by studios and given special treatment (paying for trips, organizing special screenings, exclusive access to press junkets, etc.) because the studios know that these people are A) enormous fans, and thus already predisposed to liking the film no matter what; and, B) are susceptible to the special treatment. And then they go on their shows (and not just podcasts, but web series and written articles as well) and do exactly what the studio wanted them to do. Like all those early Twitter reactions to Batman v. Superman that were inordinately positive, because they were non-critics given special treatment by getting to see it early. And that's just a few examples.

As for this, they aren't satirizing "blind love," either. Part of the joke is that they were saying that the film's flaws, or "supposed flaws," can and should just be glossed over because, as they were pretending to believe in the video, "that's not the point," or "war movies aren't supposed to have good characters," or the extreme "We aren't supposed to like the movie." That kind of rationalizing and papering over of the film's (many) flaws has happened on pretty much every podcast/web series that I've seen which they are trying to take the piss out of here. They're not saying "you're dumb for liking the movie," necessarily, they're saying "you're dumb for glossing over the film's legitimate problems, even if you liked it." And also, they generally liked The Force Awakens so that last sentence isn't totally true.

And I should also say that I generally enjoyed this movie as well but you won't find it anywhere near my top ten of the year (like it was for Kristian and Mark over at Schmoes Know). It wasn't even close to being the best blockbuster action film of the year. Civil War and Star Trek Beyond were both way, way better than this, in my opinion. But I admit that the film has real problems even though I enjoyed it on the whole. And didn't think it was better than The Force Awakens either.

You had me until this point lol. Civil War? Yes. I'll substitute your Star Trek for Jungle Book though and we'll all good :-)

I just find the Star Wars universe more intriguing than Star Trek, even with bad acting and poor one liners at times I enjoy he concepts of Star Wars more. I like that a Star Wars story focused on the war and hope there are more like it, also I know this is probably unpopular but I would watch the shit out of an Ashoka movie
