I also would like to write a blurb for GOTY once the results come in, I played a lot of the nominees so I'm sure something I love will get in.

 

UC4 alone is worth it.

EDIT: I also rarely say a single game is worth owning a console for, but seriously UC4 is absolutely worth buying a PS4 to experience.

 

Still hoping to find a Pro for less than 400.

 

I thought about getting a pro, but I'll be fine waiting 3 yrs or so until nextgen.

 

Just hit disc 4 of 4 in lost odyssey. Never been a fan of random battles, and am thankful that convention is mostly dead, but this game is still solid.

Skill linking system has made things a bit too grindy, and the females are designed for the male gaze, but as a climate change believer and proponent of nuclear disarmament, I dig the metaphors in the main story, the dream sequences are deep in a way most games never even attempt to be, and the battle system is solid, which means i'm kicking myself for not supporting this game when it was released.

The ring system can go to hell. Needless complexity, and a shit ui.

 

If I'll buy a half step console (though there might not be a real next gen depending on how these do), I'll buy a Scorpio. Looking at the numbers that are out there, that one actualy sounds like big step up.

Haha, yeah, the only jrpg that i've played that avoids needless complexity is Grandia 2....I'm sure there are others though.

Also I feel weird calling The Last Guardian a puzzle game but I still voted for it in that category, ha.

 

yeah probably more action adventure, but some games can be multiple genres.

It is hard but that's not a bad thing. It's still the best game this gen. 10/10 masterpiece all games should learn from.

I was watching gameplay for World of Final Fantasy and Ratchet and Clank this weekend and I was just like, that's it I really want to play these games.

Titanfall 2's campaign really is stellar. Like...shockingly good. Loving every level, every battle and the characters.

Also played first day of Firewatch this morning, really love the story-telling and art-style. Excited to finish tonight.

 

They really did great on the "remaster" of R&C. I'm hoping they do Commando and Arsenal too

honestly, I know it sounds frustrating, but I would seriously recommend you give it a try, especially if you think you wouldn't like it. if you had asked me my opinion of Bloodborne while I was playing it, depending on the day, I'd have told you that I hate it and it sucks and no one should ever play it. but when you step back and think about it, it's impossible to not be like holy shit. the art direction alone makes it worth experiencing. no other game has nailed a gothic/Lovecraftian style anywhere near as well. I know @SpyKi shills for Bloodborne constantly, but he's right. that and Witcher 3 are far and away the best experiences on the PS4.

I picked up Bloodborne expecting not to like it. I’ve never played any of the Souls games and from what I’d heard, Bloodborne was the same sort of game. As I understood it, these were brutally hard games that seemed to generate equal amounts of frustration and joy. I’m not an especially skilled gamer and I don’t tend to play very difficult games. I get frustrated easy and I’m usually the first to read a game F.A.Q. when I get stuck. I just sort of assumed Bloodborne was not for me. Boy was I ever wrong.

Today’s comic is 100% accurate. I “quit” Bloodborne a bunch of times but I always ended up coming back to it. Every time I died (and I died a lot) I had the feeling that I could go back and do it better. It’s true that I was ridiculously frustrated and there were times when I had to keep clearing the same area over and over again that I wondered why I was doing this. I remember early on thinking that it must be impossible to fight more than one guy at a time. I avoided the big bad guys entirely. The starting zone was incredibly hard but I kept going back to it over and over again. Eventually I got through it, and it wasn’t because my gear got better, it was because I got better. That’s an incredible feeling.

Playing Bloodborne is sort of like free-diving. I think of the lanterns as diving bells on the”surface”. Each time you venture out into the world you’re sort of holding your breath and diving into an incredibly deadly place. You go a little further each time as you start to familiarize yourself with the area and its dangers. When you are deep into an area, far away from your lantern and carrying a bunch of loot, you feel the weight of the world around you. The thing about Bloodborne is that any jackass can kill you. If you’re not paying attention the dude at the beginning of starting zone can cut you down. Sometimes just getting back to the lantern can feel like an incredible accomplishment. Like breaking through the surface of the water and finally getting a breath. That’s a great feeling but the real thrill is pushing yourself further. When you keep pushing and you go past where you stopped before and then find yourself up against a boss. When you decide to commit to that fight and you beat them and find a new lantern, it’s like nothing I’ve experienced in a game before.

Last night Tycho and I were in a voice chat while we each played Bloodborne. We were not playing together, just talking while we each played our own game. We were sharing tips and I was helping him find a secret area I had discovered. It was awesome and I can’t remember the last time something like that happened. My guess is that no one “sort of likes” Bloodborne. I think you either hate it, or (like me) become completely obsessed with it.

 

Try The Last Guardian at least! That one's easy.

 

I'm going to make all of my children play Bloodborne.
