Genre labels in general are pretty meaningless, but I guess I brought this on myself with my original post. I wouldn't put ADTR in that category, I do think YC fits in there but I don't really consider them a "current" band in that their apex of popularity was long ago and they're done now

I'm just about parallel to that...thank god for my buddy in 6th grade that introduced me to The Black Album or I'd have never given heavy music a chance.

    1. Metallica
    2. Drive Thru Records (Senses Fail got me into appreciating a scream or 2)
    3. Between the Buried and Me
    4. Thrice/Brand New/ Manchester Orchestra and the likes
    5. Now (all of the above but MUCH more diverse)

Poor YC, I'm pretty bummed about them being gone. One of the bands that were consistent throughout my life. Did you see the video for What Appears I made? I posted it in the YC thread. I'm not going to spam it here but searching the song in youtube its one of the first to show.

Yes to metallica, all the time all day. And the drive thru days were so nice. Esp What it is to Burn! Thrice was a game changer for me too.

In a thread where opinions are all over the place, I'm afraid to ask but where does everyone stand on Rise Against?

And by that, I mean if you are recording a band you know how hard it is to start with a blank slate and have write the song piece by piece and have it all come together to make song. So much goes into it.

the effort it takes to write and record a song doesnt make it good by default. its hard to create anything but not everything ever created is good

Same with the opposite. Some of my favorite songs I've written were the easiest to create.
