Yeah, I skipped it and stopped for the Ellsworth promo. Which was worth it

ZigZag/End Of Days spot has me thinking... has Corbin ever done a double end of days before?

  3. So is Sami Zayn just gonna be Dolph Ziggler his whole career? Appears to be heading that direction.

oh come on haha we are not even CLOSE to anything of that sorts. Zayn has been on the roster for basically, one full year so far, and i think his trajectory isn't anything to be concerned with yet

    man, I'm pretty Prestigious

this week's smackdown was actually must-see TV so I DVR'd it and made sure to watch. can't remember the last time I've thought that way about a smackdown (or raw for that matter).

    thoughts:

-opening segment was cena as his best and heel-iest I've seen him in a long, long time. It was great. He didn't even go into "LISTEN HERE, JACK" mode. Don't know how anyone could dislike it.

-I don't know how to feel about AA. My gut reaction, though I doubt anyone will admit this, is that it's kinda bad. As happy as I am for AA, I see no reason why you'd hotshot the titles on to them aside from attempting to deliver on some of the hype of this show with a title swap. I'm guessing the Wyatts will recapture the titles at the February SD PPV, or sooner, and that just hurts both teams. Aside from the fact that the Wyatts got dumpstered yet again (sigh), which is an entirely different argument... I just feel like they finally had a legitimate story with Randy for the first time in forever. And instead of letting it breathe and develop it just gets squished and blitzed through because I don't know why. Disappointing.

-Womens title match was mostly just a continuous sigh. Alexa is so so good. She NEEDS to be built up as a credible champion/opponent for Becky and matches like these don't do anything to help that. That elbow thing was sick though. That's a PPV-worthy spot wasted in a meaningless Smackdown match. Imagine if that shit happened at Mania and she really sold it.

-The main event was great. The Superkick to AJ, the double table and the Deep Six/Zig Zag combo were all spots that could've convinced me the match was over. It put over Corbin HUGE and I'm not really sure why. What I mean by that is nothing in the match really showed me that he deserved it. I've always liked Corbin, but yeah the clear point of this was to just give him a rub. So whatever.

-Zero reason why Cena deserves another shot at AJ after Styles routed him twice in a row over the Summer. That's WWE Kayfabe for you, I guess. The argument they used totally works ("I'm John Cena") but I hope AJ doesn't accept that.

So 205 Live NEEDS a GM. I typically don't like authority figures because I feel like Vince has them in the spotlight too much. Last night, the show felt a little too 'fuck it, let's just let them go' to me. There should be someone going out there and saying, "cut this shit out. you want a title match, you've got it." not just Neville going insane. Hell, put Regal in charge of that too. He's perfect in the role.

just imagine how unbelievable smackdown is going to be in the build to wrestlemania. this show has been on fire since the split and they haven't touched the major feuds yet. alexa's arm spot was such a sick visual and opens the possibility to ending a match of theirs via injury. corbin looked good in the main, which seemed to be the goal. smackdown rules

Over/under on Corbin screwing cena at the rumble and starting a feud to get himself over?

I LOVE that Neville/Swann ended with a top-rope superplex. Heel Neville is absolutely fantastic.

For anyone looking to get into NJPW, or just see what it's all about, you can watch all of the major title matches from this year for free right now. LOTS of classic matches from this year.

Do yourself a favor and watch the Elgin/Omega matches. Ishii vs Shibata is still probably my match of the year.

oh! i almost forgot about Bliss showing the world that she's double jointed with that nasty looking arm after the disarmher!! What a fun trick she can use, hopefully, only once in a while when the psychology makes sense (Becky worked that arm all night).

I'd be down. But I think Corbin is gonna find a way to win the IC title by WM. Could see Dean beating the Miz and then Corbin beating him

Yeah, it would have made a lot more sense to have them retain, keep building the Orton/Harper angle (make them screw up at the Rumble, barely survive at Elim Chamber) then lose at WM to AA and have Bray turn on Harper there. Plenty of time to keep Randy in that angle, and they could expedite that angle at any point.

Though, I guess after tonight, Smackdown might not have any face teams beyond AA. Hype Bros are out, and now Slater might be out too. Kinda forces AA to win to have feuds to build.

it is pretty nice to see AA win it, but i also think it is a bit premature. just have the wyatts retain through the numbers game last night and sets them up to feud with AA at least until the rumble. i just don't see the purpose in taking the belts off of them this early into the reign as they have won fairly decisively in the matches they have had, with ryder being out they probably had to call in audible i guess.

so foley apparently hasn't had his hip surgery yet because he doesn't have health insurance?? that is crazy

  24. preppyak

    Elite Supporter

Well, hes an independent contractor, so he's got to figure it out on his own. And a bunch of companies have switched their insurance options in the last year (2017 is probably gonna be even crazier).

He could easily get health insurance in a day, but, no company is gonna approve elective surgery for someone whose been with them for a week.

I'll probably come up with a few more throughout the day, but my favorite matches of the year go something like this:

Ishii v Shibata (NJPW: Wrestle Kingdom 10)
AJ v Shinsuke (NJPW: Wrestle Kingdom 10)
Okada v Tanahashi (NJPW: Wrestle Kingdom 10)
Kenny Omega v Naito (NJPW: G1 Climax)
Kenny Omega v Goto (NJPW: G1 Climax)
Kenny Omega v Michael Elgin (NJPW: Dominion)
Mil Muertes v Matanza (Lucha Underground: 2 Grave 2 Consequences)
Sexy Star v Mariposa (Lucha Undergroud: No Mas)
AJ Styles v John Cena (WWE: Summerslam)
    Intercontinental Title Match (WWE: Wrestlemania)
Sami Zayn v Shinsuke (WWE: Takeover Dallas)
The Revival v DIY (WWE: Takeover Toronto)
Ladder War 6 (ROH: All-Star Extravaganza)
Adam Page v Jay Briscoe (ROH: Death Before Dishonor)
Adam Cole v Kyle O'Reilly (ROH: Final Battle)

I know I'm forgetting a bunch, but those were all pretty memorable. And last nights triple threat may have been the best 'free tv' match of the year.
