When could argue that waiting to build suspense is a logical thing to do at this point. As well, logically, they wouldn't want any promo for it to interfere with Rogue One which will be in theaters til late February, at least.

You are just using far too strong of terms when you should not be.

I don't know if it's a good thing or a bad thing that this was in the can before Carrie died. On the one hand, we have her complete performance here, while on the other now it's too late to reconfigure this film to account for her passing and they'll have to awkwardly do it at the beginning of Episode IX somehow instead.

I don't know what unused footage they have from TFA, but between that and whatever they're sitting on with E8, they could probably give her a brief appearance in E9 but mostly refer to her off screen. Though, that assumes she has a small enough role in E8 for that to not be awkward, which might not be the case.

I just hope they don't Tarkin her in E9. Some of my friends think having the character die and get a burial in E9 would be in poor taste, but I'd take a thoughtful eulogy 3 years from now over a bunch of CGI Leia 3 years from now.

Honestly at this point I could care less about her role in the future films. To me this time is for celebrating her life and impact and we can worry about that stuff later.

Agreed. I did not enjoy CGI Tarkin at all (and the less said about CGI Leia, the better).

As for her role in Episode VIII, I had expected her involvement to increase by a good deal over The Force Awakens. I felt like that film focused a lot on Han because they knew they were going to kill him off and wanted the audience to have one last hurrah with Harrison Ford beforehand. With him gone, I felt like Leia was going to be much more important to the story moving forward. At least I had hoped she was. Would be shocking for her to not be around during Episode IX and what, I assume, will be a huge finale, so I honestly do think killing and burying her would be the best bet. Because again, and I can't stress this enough, I do not want them to CGI her into it.

You're not wrong, but for people who didn't know her personally, talking about these things while also celebrating her life can be a good coping mechanism. We're not messaging the Star Wars family about this or anything.

She did a lot of great work outside of Star Wars. Hannah and Her Sisters, Blues Brothers, Catastrophe, her own writing, she was exceptional and while I recognize the iconic nature of what she did for Star Wars, she was so much more.

Yeah, that's my main problem is people that are referring to her solely as Princess Leia - she was so much more than that.

Seriously. I'm doing everything in my power not to continue crying at work right now. We're discussing what will be her final film role and what lasting effect it will have on the series (and the film industry itself, really).

Well, this is the Episode VIII thread, so...

I do get the intention behind the criticism. Nerd talk in the face of tragedy probably seems disrespectful to people not in the mood for it.

Still, we're not asking her loved ones about this or forcing everyone to take part in this part of the conversation. Different people cope in different ways. Policing how people react (within reason) isn't really a cool thing to do.

But, this is a heartbreaking loss, so I'm not gonna police others' policing. Instead, I'll keep fantasizing about what my ideal send off in movie form would look like while also mourning the loss of a wonderful woman.

She's one of my favorite parts of When Harry Met Sally. Her punch line at the end of this scene gets me every time.

And that's great. I'm not trying to tell anyone else how to cope with this because everyone is gonna approach it in different ways and rightly so. My comment was just about where I am right now and how I feel, that's all.

    Carrie was hilarious on Catastrophe.

Also, I had no idea she had such an established career as an author. I plan on purchasing Wishful Drinking this week.

Is there really any doubt that Rey will be related to Luke in one way or another? I mean, seriously.

We don't know her last name, that's fine, but it's very obviously going this route. Luke will take on the role of Yoda and Rey will continue on the Jedi lineage. As much as I'd like to see someone other than a Skywalker be an all-powerful Jedi, I doubt that will happen. Kylo has Skywalker blood, so he is lumped in with Luke and Anakin. I know there was Obi-Wan and Qui-Gon, but they weren't the focal point of the story.

I still think she was just trained by Luke as a child. The same group that Kylo Ren massacred. Then she was the lone survivor and had her memory wiped and marooned on the desert planet.

True, I forgot about that teeny tiny detail. Why else would the massacre aftermath scene be included? It's one of the most badass scenes in the movie, by far.
