Can someone help me like the Pinegrove album? I feel like I should like it, but I've tried it 5 times or so and can't even get half way through. My tastes generally line up with a lot of folks in here and I have seen this album receive so much praise, yet I just can't seem to like it. Or even not dislike it.

I really couldn't get into it upon its initial praise but gave it a shot a few months later and it really clicked. I should add that "Size of the Moon" was the only song that I really *liked* at first listen (now I love it). Definitely a grower!

My favorite song is New Friends which is last, and it's only like 8 songs just get through it and maybe don't like it if you dont

If the "I should call my parents when I think of them, should tell my friends when I love them..." verse in Old Friends isn't drawing you in, the album might not be for you.

For me, seeing a band live, or in a 'session-like' environment usually helps...

people cant just flip a switch and make you like an album. if you dont like it you dont like it, i dont think you need help

But people can point out what they like about an album that someone else might not have picked up on. I feel it's a fair thing to ask, especially when you feel like you're missing out on something considered so major.

idk when it comes to a majorly hyped album that has already had so much said about it throughout the course of a year idk what new perspective someone could add that isnt already out there. i just dont get trying to force yourself to like something just because other people do, if after 5 listens i dislike something im not gonna keep trying. i might return to it later down the road. i get what youre saying but at the same time its not something i really do

Yeah, it's totally situational, by person and by the piece of art. For me, when certain circles really praise something and I don't get it, I want to know what or where that disconnect is coming from. But again, totally different approaches for different people. I think my approach largely comes from watching movies though, where I feel like there is a lot more chance for that lack of connection between a person and a work, and reading/finding other positions actually lend greatly to understanding.

Gonna have to agree with you on this one. It's a decent release, but I just don't see why it's so hyped. Just feels like another serviceable release from Run for Cover to me.

But forreal, there's tons of stuff which are critically acclaimed which I just can't really get into. Radiohead for example.

That's where I am coming from with Cardinal. Some of the biggest releases of the year within this website--Hotelier, Thrice, Jimmy Eat World...I loved. It seemed a foregone conclusion I'd at least like Pinegrove, but on the first couple listens I wasn't really drawn in. Listening while reading the lyrics definitely gave me a different appreciation for it. I don't know if I'll ever be nuts about it, but I can definitely see where the praise is coming from.

Seeing 1975 show up quite a bit. That album had 0 pull for me to return to it more than like 5 times. Shame cause I really enjoyed it that first week or two it was released.

It wasn't really a constant listen for me. It was more sparingly, but whenever I did I loved it. I had to give it one last listen before I could properly rank it, though I already want to rearrange the order.

  25. I don't listen to the 1975 record nearly as much as a lot of the ones on my list that it beat out. Placing it so high on my list came from it being such a wonderfully constructed and well executed album. It's more than just collection of songs to me -- it's like an experience, as cheesy as that sounds haha. That's not to say a lot of the songs don't stand out individually or anything, but the ebbs and flows of the album are just really perfect and makes the whole thing so unique.

PLUS UGH IS SUCH A BANGER
