Not sure I even have any software to record into these days. I finally let Cubase SE go when I replaced by XP machine and moved house.

 

Been thinking about it for awhile now but I'm finally buying a BYOC kit and some soldering tools to start making pedals. Hopefully I can get a hang of the actual soldering and building skills after just a few kits 'cause all I want to do is start building weird prototypes and maybe clones of some pricier boutique pedals for myself.

 

I went through that a few years ago. I probably have as many pedals built at home as I have purchased ones these days (not including the home built ones I sold off). The BYOC stuff is really good though.

If you've never had a go at this sort of thing, make sure you start with a simpler kit or maybe get their confidence booster if they still do it.

Which kit are you fancying?

 

Almost done my modifications to my guitar that I was mentioning a couple weeks ago! In really really happy with how everything has turned out so far. I've still yet to put it to the true test of using with with my full band, but man am I living it so far.

I'll post pictures as soon as I get my new knobs, so it'll be 100% done. I'm putting Gibson speed knobs on a tele deluxe, I'm hoping it'll look cool.

 

Alright she's all done! So, I replaced the pickguard from black to the red tort color. Replaced the pups which were the fender wide range re-issues with a seymour Duncan jazz neck and a Seymour JB in the bridge. I replaced the bridge saddles to the graphite saddles. Replaced the nut and put in a synthetic bone one.

I mentioned I was going to put Amber speed knobs on it. I got them in today, and I just like the black ones a lot more. I think the black knobs look good with the bridge and the pickups seeing as they're all dark.

Overall, I'm super super impressed with how it's sounding so far. This was a lot of fun. I didn't see myself every buying a squier guitar, because I just just kind of had them written off in my mind. But I've come to believe and realize with this guitar that you don't need to spend thousands of dollars to get a great instrument. With the upgrades I did on this guitar, it really does sound awesome. And feels great too. Anyway, here are some pictures!

 

also - i super lucked out on the price of this. So here in Canada our best chain music store / guitar seller is called Long and McQuade (not sure if yall have them in the US). I checked on their website, and this particular Telecaster deluxe goes for about $530. I got mine on a crazy sale for $210 at a smaller local guitar shop.

had i done all these upgrades and bought the guitar at regular price, i would been looking at like 800-850 dollars total probably. but because of the guitar originally being on sale, i mega upgrades this thing for like how much it regularly goes for.

 

Looks great man. I bet the new nut and saddles have improved the feel of it no end.

 

How does the neck and frets feel?

Went with the Large Beaver since I read it sounded okay.

 

Nice. I've not built the BYOC one, but I've built a Big Muff from another PCB and they're not too complicated. Sure you'll be fine :)

 

I went to my local guitar shop to buy a Fender Mustang.

Ended up walking out with a Vox AC10.

 

Anybody play Bugera amps? Debating on whether or not to get one to replace my shitty Fender solidstate.

 

Are Bugera amps still made or is it second hand? I can't even find a website for them. They're definitely a very budget option. From what I remember, they're essentially clones of well known amps (stuff like the Peavey 5150 and looks like there's a Boogie copy in there too). They're actually made by Behringer if I recall correctly, but I expect they stuck the Bugera name on them because Behringer was known for making very cheap, very nasty amps.

They're very very cheaply made, so you might well be risking getting something very unreliable. £400-500 for an all valve 100 watt amp is almost frighteningly cheap, something that you might well pay for in the end.

For the price of their bigger amps, I'd go for a much lower wattage amp, but from someone more reputable. That being said, if it's ridiculously cheap, then maybe you don't have a lot to lose...

 

Primarily looking into this amp in particular. Fairly lower wattage, all tube.

 

I wouldn't recommend a Bugera and especially not at $400. If you find one used for under $200 maybe? But still, I would recommend anything else. Blackstar HT Club 40 or Studio 20 go used for around that price and are a lot better.

 

I think this is the second or third time I've mentioned it so I will refrain after this but you can find this even cheaper if you're patient on craigslist and even at $400 you're going to have trouble finding anything significantly better. 10/10 cleans, a good if not spectacular drive channel, and great with pedals:

My friend and former bandmate had this amp for a while. It's great.

 

I think other people have waded in enough already. For that sort of money, you can buy something new or used which will be far more reliable. Sounds to me like you need to go to a few guitar shops and play a load of amps. :)
