Do a lot of NWSL players go play there, too? It seems like it'd be not allowed by clubs, but with the pay dramatically lower in the women's game, it'd also seem like a good choice.

The W-League is really the only league overseas that doesn't crossover into the NWSL season so yeah I don't think they have a problem with it. I think all of the NWSL club's that have Aussie players let them go back home and play on loan. And each of the W-League teams (9 total) only have 4 internationl spots so it's really not that many but most of the spots are used on NWSL players. I think they're headed to eventually forming an official partnership between the two leagues.

Of all the international players announced so far, only 3 are from outside of the NWSL.

I think that partnership could be really cool. Kinda reminds me of off-season MLS to EPL loans that used to happen a few years back.

I would personally like to thank the Washington Spirit's owner (aka the guy who played the anthem while players were in the locker room so Pinoe couldn't kneel) for being a petty asshole and trading Ali Krieger to the Orlando Pride for next to nothing. We will gladly take her if you don't want her just because she's not afraid to speak her mind.

Krieger led the movement of the team writing a letter saying they didn't support his actions btw. Originally when rumors of the trade came out, people were thinking she requested to be traded for personal reasons but it's becoming more apparent that's not true and the owner wanted to get rid of her.

I wish you guys were into the NWSL so I could talk about it more because the implosion of the Washington Spirit is like a car crash you can't look away from.

Today, they traded away Christine Nairn, who has played for them for three seasons and was the most likely to replace Ali Krieger as the captain, to the Seattle Reign. Plain and simple, she wanted out of the organization because of the situation with the owner. It was a better trade than the Krieger trade but still leans heavily in favor of the Reign unles the draft picks they acquired really pan out.

It's looking like Crystal Dunn will likely be the next leave the team (possibly even to go overseas) and more veteran players want to leave as well. The Spirit went from being 30 seconds away from a championship to a complete disaster in the matter of a month because the owner is a jackass.

That Tobin goal was a thing of beauty.

I'm going to limit the amount of posts I make because I'll probably be the only one watching...

I'm pretty happy with the starting lineup tonight. It's a weaker opponent and Jill is starting younger players even though she has the likes of Alex and JJ available. Plus she's still committing to experimenting with a three back instead of stopping afte the last games, although I'm dumbfounded that Kriegs isn't available because she's the fastest defensive player we have.

Press and Tobin gvinig me life after the election this week.

Andi Sullivan is mature beyond her years.

I love Christen Press. Moe with the great assist.

My plan of limiting posts has not worked.

It's been three 2 months since the Olympics but Jill still thought she should put her on the roster for Rio...

A "media" member basically was against Tobin being passed the captian's armband after Becky was subbed off and I really don't get it. She's the most capped member on the team; even more than Becky.

What a way to kick off the last game day of the year. I was really hoping they'd do one and they pulled through!

Amazing, Jill actually gave us a JJ-Becky-Ali 3 back.

Also, Press and Alex on the field together!

Hot take: Christen Press is the best American forward right now. I'm sorry, Alex.

Thee future of this team looks very bright if they can just get their defense figured out. Young players like Mewis, Brian, Sullivan, etc. all look like they'll be big pieces on this team going forward.

Sucks this was the last game for a while but She Believes will be right around the corner. And hopefully the CBA negotiations will be relatively uneventful and they get a good deal.

Seems like a lot of the Nats are considering moving abroad. Probably making a point for the CBA/advancement of the game.

...She's not leaving the NWSL. They made it clear she's returning in June.
Right now, the only other player rumored to be playing overseas is Crystal Dunn but I'll be interested to see who else is looking into it. However, two of the top Canadian girls, Ashley Lawrence and Kadeisha Buchanan, who would be eligible for the upcoming draft, look like they'll be heading overseas as well. Buchanan was actually just visiting Lyon herself, and I think Lawrence might be talking to PSG?

In the Player's Tribune article, she didn't explicitly state it, but in her interview with Grant Wahl said one of the reason's she decided to sign the deal was because it's only for the rest of Lyon's current season and she'd be able to return to the Orlando Pride.

So it looks like the NWSL will be getting an expansion team in Vancouver next year that will be operated by the Whitecaps. This kind of came out of left field because last I heard the owner didn't sound super interested. Apparently, they reached out to 3 supporter groups to gauge interest. I think it will be great for them to get a team in Canada plus they need more teams in the west.

Also in other news, Crystal Dunn is signing with Chelsea in the FAWSL and unlike Alex, she won't be playing in the NWSL at all in 2017. It sucks a little to see big name players drawn out of the US but ultimately I don't think it hurt the the league much in the long run. It'll be interesting to see if any other NT players go over but I haven't seen any rumors about specific players. The only other thing I've seen is that HAO has been talking to Arsenal.
