Seahawks select Sheldon Rankins, DT, Louisville

Outside of Rubin the Seahawks don't have a fulltime starting caliber DT on the roster. Rankins could easily step in where Mebane left off at and be a difference on the inside stopping the run and letting our D-ends feast on QBs.

Wish it was acceptable for me to have Kevin Williams'd that pick. Rankins was totally where I was going with my beloved Packers. See, look, I even had a .gif with a snappy Eddie Lacy comparison queued up for you all.

Edit: why no gif work good?

@Chris Yates Green Bay Packers - OLB - Leonard Floyd

I honestly don't know about this pick. Floyd is a size/speed freak, a player on the rise that offers some versatility and can get after the QB inside and out.

Kansas City (nobody attached) is up.

Can we give the chiefs Paxton lynch so we don't have to watch Alex smith throw the ball 5 yards every play for an eternity?

As much as it makes sense, I don't think they'd take him

    Chiefs should take Karl Joseph.

William Jackson makes a lot of sense for Kansas City. They have absolutely nothing at corner opposite Marcus Peters.

Will Fuller is one of the best players available, but I'm not sure he's a great fit with Alex Smith and their cap gun offense.

William Jackson was my other guess, let's go with that

Yeah I'd say that CB, SS, and ILB would be needs for KC along with a WR opposite Maclin. ILB might be a lower priority since they still have Derrick Johnson, but they should probably draft his successor sooner rather than later.

I like Ron Parker as the other safety in KC. They just shelled out some cash to him in 2015 too. I think they're paying close to $14M combined for their starters at safety. Stevie Brown isn't bad depth for them either.

Depending on how Justin Houston's recovery goes, OLB could be a huge hole for KC in the coming years...even with Dee Ford on the roster. Hali is almost done.

The Cards select Ryan Kelly, C, Bama

The Cardinals have built a very solid OL through free agency, Humphries might be the one drafted player who starts for them on the OL next year and he should be joining by the most solid center in this draft. Kelly is pretty tough in every way, he should be their starting center for the next decade and blaze the trail for new rbstar David Johnson as well as helping keep Palmer from inevitably getting injured. Sorry AQ Shipley.

Chiefs have Phillip Gaines returning from injury, a third round pick from the 2014 draft who played very well his rookie year and they grabbed Steven Nelson in the third last year. Plus, the obvious is they just spent a first round pick on a corner last year. But whatever.

They also signed multiple safeties in free agency and have to clearcut starters at the position.

Gaines isn't a sure thing returning from the ACL injury and Nelson has done absolutely nothing so far to prove he can be a starter on the outside.

I honestly think he was bpa in a top 5 tier, could be much worse than that pick. You should take them as a 2nd team next time we do a mock.

They signed depth players, they lost two quality safeties in Abdullah and Branch, and they could easily lose Eric Berry after this next year in FA and while Parker has value in his versatility, he still can and should be upgraded. Gaines is going to be ready by training camp by all reports I've seen, and Nelson should play in the slot but he certainly showed at Oregon State the capability to play outside. The point isn't that they couldn't use another body, but that they have three young players at the position that they really like and have invested high draft capital in, and that's not counting Marcus Cooper who has started for them in the past and has had his moments.

  22. Carolina Panthers select Derrick Henry, RB, Alabama

Gettleman loves big, physical players and Henry fits that description. Combine that with the fact that Gurley was #1 was the Panthers' board last season and it's clear Henry is a very realistic option at #30. The Panthers love to overpower teams with their heavy running attack. They ran the ball more than any other team last season. Henry is a big-body who has proven he can take a heavy workload. He would be splitting time with Stewart in his rookie year but would likely be the top guy the following season. Stewart is getting close to the dreaded 30 years old mark, makes a lot of money, and already has somewhat of an injury history. Gettleman has spent late-round picks on RBs the last couple seasons but I think he is still looking for his future #1 back.

In a recent interview Henry was asked where he wanted to play. This was his response, "A team that's physical, that's going to pound the rock, that's not scared...That's going to pound you, go play-action off the ball." That's what the Panthers do best. Adding a 6'3" RB to an offense already full of giants (Cam, Olsen, KB, Funch) would be tough for any opposing team to handle.

Denver selects: Robert Nkemdiche, DE/DT, Ole Miss

With Malik Jackson gone, they have a need to fill on the defensive line. Dude has some character issues, but I think this could be a good fit for him.

This is the end of round 1. Those picks are condensed into a section in the OP.

@Blimp City Hero You're up for Cleveland. Start of Round 2.

They replaced depth with depth. It might be a bit of a downgrade, but it's not that big of a position need. I can't see Berry playing anywhere else.

Gaines might be healthy by camp, but there's no certainty that he's the same caliber of player.

Playing outside in the PAC-12 is a little different than playing it in the NFL. Nelson is a nickel and dime back. There's nothing wrong with that. Having a player like him on a roster shouldn't have an impact on how you draft outside corners.

There's no clear cut starter opposite Marcus Peters. I apologize that your Karl Joseph suggestion went unnoticed, but I stand by William Jackson as the better selection for Kansas City.

Calling Branch and Abdullah "depth" is disingenuous, they were a heavy part of their secondary rotation. And Berry is under a franchise tag at a stupid high price, they couldn't come to an agreement this offseason, it's certainly possible they won't next and he walks.

Just because a player is short =/= he's slot only. Nelson showed a lot of traits at Oregon State that translate to the NFL and allow him to play outside.

I really don't care about Karl Joseph not getting picked, I just doubt the Chiefs are going to spend a first round pick to get a #2 cornerback after investing a first round pick last year on a corner, especially when they have other young talent already on the roster. If they lacked a #1 corner I could buy it, but they have Peters. And even if Nelson isn't ready/flames out, Parker can play the slot, as he did last year, and the #2 position could easily be filled by Gaines, Fleming, or Cooper as all three have starter experience.
