Lists in here or publication lists? Bc Jeffery is popping up everywhere on pub lists.

Or they can be bland, unimportant and irrelevant, like some albums that are being listed, yet instead of those albums (almost all of them by random indie rock band #44), Lemonade seems to be the one that people like to critique the most anytime someone mentions that it is great.

Yeah but also who cares?? Does some dude not having Lemonade on his list discredit its importance? Does it make you lose sleep? Idk what's the big fuss.

I mean this is obvious, what's bland unimportant and irrelevant to one person could be life changing to another. Haven't seen Diiv on literally any list but mine but that album changed my life and saved me because the subject matter was exactly what I was going through, thus it was important and relevant to me while it probably wasn't in the music world at large. But who cares about the music world at large, individual lists are personalized snapshots of the music people liked in a given year. You don't have to like everything on someone's list and things you do like are going to be omitted. That's how it is and always has been

Seen the discussion in the 1975 thread?

You can keep being histrionic, but trying to police what music people like most is futile and, tbh, annoying.

Also discussing the "relevance" of music is just...sigh.

    Have a feeling.

I don't care all that much. Someone asked why Lemonade isn't on more lists and I answered with what I think the reason is, and I argued against some of the possible reasons other people provided. Maybe I'm wrong, but I was under the impressions that that is what a Forum is for.

    Anyway, I'm done: Boy Bye.

Seemed like you were saying there's something wrong with lemonade not making a list that's all

Was Lemonade made available for streaming anywhere other than Tidal? Lack of accessibility may be one reason why it didn't make lists.

    3. Cardiknox - On My Way
    4. The Japanese House - Face Like Thunder

Repping some shred. I saw Erra live this year and they killed it. Animals As Leader's new record is just insane. So good.

Following a change in position at work in the 2nd half of 2016 I was able to rediscover my passion for music. As a father of a 2 year old in my 30s now there just was never enough time in the day to dedicate to searching for and listening to music like I used to before life happened. I have all of these other priorities and responsibilities now that come with being an adult who's blessed enough to have an amazing wife and daughter.

My new job though allows me to pop in some headphones and let music power me through each workday as I sit at my desk. Some of my most productive work days were those days I discovered a great new album or rediscovered something I hadn't listened to in years.

Here are my 2016 music lists:

    1. TOO CLOSE TOO TOUCH - HAVEN'T BEEN MYSELF

What's not to love about this album? Deeply moving lyrics and meaning. Catchy, powerful and passionate. I discovered this while just randomly listening to new music on YouTube and I'm so thankful I did. I devoured this album and listened through it over and over all day. The next day after listening through this album again I went back and listened through their prior album "Nerve Endings" and loved that as well. When I checked this forum for people's lists I was and am still shocked to see how little love this band and album are getting. Maybe I'm just out of touch with the new generation of listeners and what reaches people now but this band is excellent.

    2. BOSTON MANOR - BE NOTHING

It's odd really. Usually I listen to music and dive into the lyrics and find meaning and feel every word but with this album I just take in the sound and feed off of it like a vivid memory of the bands I loved most in my musical peak. I hear this band and I hear a little bit of "Northstar" and "The Graduate" and definitely hear some "Hidden In Plain View". This album is addictive. The only knock on it is the lyrics don't really capture me but the music is so good I don't really care.

OTHER MUSIC I ENJOYED IN NO PARTICULAR ORDER:

    Hands Like Houses - Dissonants
    Saosin - Along the Shadow

Nothing But Thieves - Nothing But Thieves
--watch the video of "If I Get High" on YouTube for some major feels and goosebumps.

Against The Current - In Our Bones
--This is a guilty pleasure for me. I discovered this band a few years back before they even played any live shows because I used to love listening to people doing covers of music I liked and came across them covering some music and you could tell it was over produced to make them sound way better than they were but they were from near where I'm from and I saw potential. This album I expected to be cliche typical stuff but they impressed me and I'm proud of the band for their growth. Tracks like Demons & Chasing Ghosts caught me by surprise and Wasteland is pretty dynamic even though the main guitar sounds basically carbon copied from Armor For Sleeps Song "Basement Ghost Singing". Give this album a listen.

The Summer Set - Stories For Monday (another guilty pleasure)

    Yellowcard - Yellowcard
-not my favorite of their work but it's still worth a listen

Jimmy Eat World - Integrity Blues
Blink 182 - California (not memorable but decent)
    The Hotelier - Goodness
    House of Heroes - Colors
Taking Back Sunday - Tidal Wave
Aaron West & the Roaring Twenties - Bittersweet EP
The Starting Line - Anyways EP
    Bayside - Vacancy
Nada Surf - You Know Who You Are

Not released in 2016 but discovered it in 2016:

Our Last Night - Oak Island
    I The Mighty - Connector

    DISSAPOINTMENTS:

THE ATARIS - I honestly don't even remember the name of their release but it was absolutely awful. I loved the Ataris growing up. Blue Skies, End Is Forever, SLA...such great albums but this latest release set in stone what I already knew - Kris Roe's time to create music is long since expired.

    Pierce the Veil - Misadventures
-This wasn't the worst album I've ever heard. It wasn't even "bad". I guess I just had such high expectations that an average release like this one was just a huge letdown for me.

The 'WTF was that?' of 2016:

BadXChannels - there was one fantastic song on this album but the rest I just couldn't get into. Shame, Owens has himself some excellent vocal skills but it just wasn't for me. If he's happy and likes what he's doing now though, good for him. I'm not here to hate.

The "Wow this bands fans turned on them fast" release of 2016:

    Tonight Alive - Limitless
-Now I'll admit even I saw the music video for that song drive and thought WOW WTF is this? I also happened to come across that video with the singer with the weird octopus hair looking all weird and I was very confused but I decided to keep an opened mind and actually focus on the music and when I did that I realized that this album showed quite the bit of maturity and growth in their sound and song writing and it was actually of surprising high quality considering the massive hate it received even from the fans who were supposed to support it. It's funny, sometimes these fans that like these bands and are proud of it and to feel different for liking a non-mainstream band pull the ultimate hypocrisy when they can't accept the band the moment they change.

RANDOM 2016 PARTY SONG MUST HAVES:

Jidenna - Long Live the Chief
    Macklemore - Downtown
Alestorm - Drink (not a typo, band name is Alestorm, not Halestorm)

This is my first post here since the change from absolutepunk. It feels good to be back. I typed this up on an IPhone so my apologies if it's riddled with typos.

Happy Holidays everybody. Keep on listening.
