Since this is supposed to be the first saga film to take place immediately after the previous episode, what is the opening crawl going to talk about? Just a recap of episode VII?

 

I suppose. There will probably be some info that wasn't disclosed in ep 7.

 

Was it confirmed that this one will take place immediately after the last one? For some reason I assumed at least a few months would have passed since ep. VII, with Finn healed from his fight with Kylo and Rey well into her training with Luke.

 

Johnson confirmed it picking up right after episode VII finished at Celebration this year.

 

For all we know they will break tradition and do a cold open. Then the crawl with a time jump. When they said it picked up where 7 left off, they could have meant that literally.

Now, I doubt they would break that tradition, but at the same time I would love it.

 

They're already gonna ditch the crawl for the one off films (or at least Rogue One). I doubt they'd do that for the saga films. I'm guessing this one will actually start off with the First Order, then cut to Rey and Luke.

 

In case I wasn't clear, there would still be a crawl in my crazy idea. It just wouldn't be first.

Like how Marvel has handled their opening main logo. It was always at the beginning, but I wanna say GOTG was the first to have a "cold open" before cutting to the logo. Obviously different franchises with different opening traditions and so on. It was just a crazy thought. It would be a way to still literally pick up where we left off, but to then also enable a time jump where Finn is fully healed and such.

 

I got what you were saying, probably my bad for just saying they wouldn't want to ditch it out right. Your idea wouldn't be that crazy, but I think Star Wars fans would be pretty outraged at that too. I think it's a decent idea for what it's worth (although, it would be strange at first to see it start without the John Williams score and the crawl).

 

i dunno. Some were pissed that TFA was too much of the same. Would there then be backlash for changing something like that? Absolutely. Haha I have a feeling/hope that 8 is going to be a departure and a start like that would certainly start it off as one.

But again, as I first said, I doubt they break that tradition.

Not a huge fan of that, but In the grand scheme of things the title isn't that important.

 

Sounds like a game title.

 

It's a title that isn't great in a vacuum but could be perfect when we see the film.

That rumored title comes off as a riff on Episode VII, which isn't needed. Disney hasn't announced a trailer for this being attached to Rogue One, have they?

 

Saw that earlier today. That is just a trash title in every sense of the word.

 

They have not. Must not want to interfere with the hype train for Rogue One (understandable) but still, right around this time is when we got the first teaser for The Force Awakens two years ago. I would have to assume that if they don't surprise us with a teaser ahead of the actual showings of Rogue One, then it will be premiering very soon after next week.

 

We didn't get a Rogue One trailer for quite awhile after TFA. TFA was early, but I mean, they were restarting a franchise. It made sense to start early. But I don't see them overlapping promotion cycles. I wouldn't expect anything for 8 until February or March.

 

I looked into that title and it's just something they've put a trademark in for. It could be any number of things such as a video game, animated series, etc. I doubt it's the title.

I wouldn't count on seeing a trailer for Episode VIII until Celebration in April.

 

That is likely. After my post above I looked up when the Rogue One trailer was released, which was April. I could see them starting a little earlier for 8, but I think Ceebration is likely.

 

There is absolutely no way they wait until April to debut the first teaser for Episode VIII. Waiting until April for a side-story like Rogue One is not the same thing as waiting until April for the next full-on story in the series. I could see them waiting until April to debut the first full trailer, but we will 100% get a teaser before then.

 

I mean, I don't want to wait until then, but I think the only 100% I can say is that it won't be later than April. If it was somehow later that would be weird.

 

It's not a matter of wanting it sooner vs. what will really happen. It's just wholly illogical for them to wait that long to show any footage of the film. It's not going to happen.
