Eat The City. Eat It Whole. Prestigious

My brother and I are spending Christmas over in California this year with my Aunt and Uncle.
My festive period beer list is looking pretty ridiculous so far. It includes Zombie Dust, Dark Lord 2015, Pliny The Elder, Heady, Focal Banger, Juice Machine, King JJJuliusss, King Julius, Green, Very Green and Abraxas. I can't wait.

What do ya'll think of Monk's Cafe? I tried one the other day and I liked it for the most part, but there was a sort of vinegar-y? quality to it that was somewhat off putting.

This was my local when I was in undergrad and I usually stop back every few months. Just another reason to patronize, always a great beer list. The owner mentioned in this story also bought me a shot on my 21st lol.

I don't even think it's the best HF beer.

Hmm. I think of the "standard" HF beers, it is the best or very close. Once you get into barrel aging I agree there are better (probably many tbh) but there is something to be said for a beer with no help for lack of a better word being that good. I'd be interested what you prefer if anything of their more standard stuff.

I really love Nordic Saison, but not part of their ancestral series. There's tons of HF beers I've never had though. So my opinion is worth nothing. Also Edward is not some mind blowing beer or anything but damn that's a fine pale ale.

Oo, figures it's one I haven't had. Yeah I'd like to try that one for sure. Edward is great, it's funny that Tree House has basically robbed them of hype in the IPA market because they're still making some of the best hoppy beers there are.

Best "shelf" HF beer is a really tough call, but Anna is up there for sure.

Bells Black Note is hitting shelves around MI today and I just know that I'm not going to be able to grab any when I get off work.

are we still lucky to be here? Prestigious

Of note in Chicago, Burnt City Brewing has a bourbon barrel-aged milk stout with coffee (BA Coffee Double Freight Handler) on tap at their pub right now which might be the best BA beer I've had in recent memory. Tasted like an ice coffee with just a hint of bourbon. It didn't taste overly boozy like a lot of the BA stouts I've had recently.

Best IPA you'll ever have. If you haven't tried it.. you're missing out.

    Anyone ever try it before?

    Been trying breweries since 08'

I collect pint glasses at every brewery I go to. Around 50 at the moment.

I remember everyone in my town would shit on craft beer and now it's the only thing anyone ever talks about.

Abq is listed as one of the best spots for craft brew. A new brewery pops up almost monthly.. We alcoholics.

EDIT: List of Breweries to try if you come to NM

    1. La Cumbre - Elevated IPA, BEER (Pilsner)
    2. Marble - IPA, Double White (Ale)
    3. Bosque Brewing - Elephants On Parade, Riverwalker IPA (Can actually mix the two and it's amazing)
    4. Red Door - Vanilla Cream Ale or White Ale
    5. Boxing Bear - Uppercut IPA
    6. Lizard Tail - Strawberry IPA, Horned Honey
    7. Santa Fe Brewing

Was that your first experience with any kind of sour beer?

If it helps, this is their second batch of Black Note and I've heard it's kind of lackluster/needs to sit for a long time to balance out.

No, I've had a few others - some I've liked, some I haven't. I would say Monk's Cafe Sour Flemish was one of the better sour beers I've had (despite the weird taste I was describing), I was just curious to see what others thought.

no worries! I've actually never had it. I forgot that they had a beer so I was thrown off for a second.
