Master of not knowing what the hell I'm doing.

Terrified is GREAT, loving how ambitious the production on this is

The VR vinyl is cool as fuck, if you don't want to pay the ridiculous price for it just hold out for the standard vinyl early next year.

Yeah that's one of my favorites for sure... the back half of this album is significantly better for me than the front half barring "Me and Your Mama", but I enjoy all of it.

For people who've listened, any Kauai vibes on it?

Not that much, it's a different vibe. Much more of a throwback to classic funk/soul with modern production flourishes.

Yeah I definitely feel a bit better about the back half, I'm interested in the first half being a bit more experimental as far as music goes generally but him going really hard into soul just works so well so I'm appreciating those elements more

Yeah agreed. That being said I think it's cool how the album progresses from the more high-energy experimental funky tracks to a more mellowed-out soul vibe as it goes along.

Fuck. Not that I'm necessarily mad at that, just wanted to hear an expanded Kauai sound.

I think if you liked that there's a very good chance you'll like a lot of this album, there's some really beautiful melodies, particularly in the back half.

I'm not sure if this is genius or terrible. Or a little of both.

I haven't quite decided what I think of it yet. Not what I was expecting. At all. Ive got just a few songs left, but I haven't heard much that's making me want to come back and listen a bunch more or anything like that.

Three tracks in, this is...not great. There's a lot I want to like, but even more that's just not good.

edit: what the fuck is up with like half the vocals on this thing

  18. damn, "redbone" is actually one of the better tracks here in comparison to most of the front half

  19. "california" is so bad, holy hell

  22. Half of this is varying degrees of fine and the other half is flat-out bad. Pretty disappointed, although I appreciate the ambition/genre switch-up. The execution just isn't there.

I definitely think there's some awkward/corny moments, especially lyrically, but overall I'm impressed. "California" is probably my least favorite with the vocal effect used, but it's probably the only time I dislike any of the "voices" used in the album. Superb instrumentation/production, Donald had really blossomed as a singer, and I think the songs are already memorable to me for the most part.

Damnit this is my least favorite kind of album. When there is cool things about every song but twice as many bad things
