I don't know how many of you "care" about "cover videos" but here's one that I just did for my contribution to the hotelier comp.

I've been working on a sick cover of As Tall As Lion's "Duermete" that would of been sick for the winter comp but looks like that probably won't win

At least one of mine is as done as I can do it. Wanna do another too I think. Hard to get time to record right now but I got inspired and did a few covers last weekend for a Christmas gift.

    LONG OVERDUE REVIEWS/FEEDBACK:
@Ugly Mug - An Introduction To The Album - The craftsmanship that went into recreating this song is great, I especially like the way it builds up to the finish, and the use of violin sounds.

@Barcara @nothingsforeverdude - Goodness Pt.1 & 2 - Something special happened in this thread when you guys agreed to collaborate, it spawned into this. That's all I can say; Something special happened.

@KennedyBN - The Scope Of All This Rebuilding - Despite the vocals being low in the mix, you completely nailed this cover. I love the acoustic guitar tone.

@bradsonemanband - Vacancy - You're full of surprises aren't you, ya bastard! ;-p This song rips. This is the best you've sounded, vocally, in my opinion. The mix is also perfectly balanced too.

@teebs41 - Your Deep Rest - You wanted to redo this, sighting issues with your yelling towards the end, but I was sincerely hoping you would run out of time because the desperation in your vocals almost gives this cover a new feel, somehow making it sadder than it already was.

@elemenohpe - Southern Discomfort - I'm glad you submitted a song, there was a moment there when we were on shaky ground trying to get you on board, but you stepped up and submitted a ripper. Great job dude.

@nothingsforeverdude - Discomfort Revisited - This cover was well worth the wait. I don't know what's more impressive; the vocal performance or the composition of the instruments. They both compliment each other so well.

@aoftbsten - Sun - I love the lo-fi feel of this cover, the way you vocals get stronger towards the middle is captivating. Just out of interest, where did you record this? There's a part at the beginning that almost sounds like a plane going overhead. This was a cover that seems like a lot of thought went into, and it paid off.

@bobsheiskawy - Housebroken - This is very well done. The tone of the guitars almost give it a country feel, but your vocals bring it back to the punk life. Kind of like a Pinegrove song.

InfiniteArms - Opening Mail For My Grandmother - I gave up trying to clean up my other cover which I had spent way too long on, and just recorded this, which I'm not sure why I didn't in the first place. Pleasantly surprised at how well it turned out, especially as a last minute decision/recording.

@jols - Among the Wildflowers - I think it was mentioned before, you kind of sound like Christian. The way this song all comes together almost sounds like it could the official demo/first recording of song itself.

Thanks! I recorded all the guitar and a lot of the vocals just in my apartment, but I decided to record some vocals in my car while I was driving around (I started recording before I started driving so I wouldn't be fiddling around on the road of course). Some of audio captured the wind in the background as a result. The take I used for the first verse came from that. I originally thought about scrapping it because of the noise in the background, but I kind of liked the wind sounds for that first part. It gave it a bit of a darker tone hovering over the softer vocals in my opinion.

I'd prefer either of the two theme comps considering we just did a band.
Love it. Always fun to see how the songs are crafted. Doesn't hurt that your cover is great too!

    Who is winning the vote?

  16. I think we should establish a pattern, or at the very least, strive towards a certain ration when it comes to how many tribute comps vs mixtapes we do. In the beginning, we did six tribute comps covering five artists. When we started doing mixtapes, we had three in a row, followed by the Modest Mouse comp, followed by another three in a row, and people started saying that was too many mixtapes. Since then, it's been 2 comps to every 1 mixtape, which feels right now that I think about it, and I vaguely recall the thread having a conversation in which we decided that would be the case. Doing a winter mixtape and following that with a Best of 2016 throws it off.

I also think the only reason we haven't done Fall Out Boy up until now is that it's always in a poll with bands people want to do more. Like, I'm sure FOB will be done eventually because it's one of those bands that a lot of people on this site (or at least, AP.net) know and love. Same with all the other bands I want to cover, I'm sure we'll get around to all of them eventually. I can do covers for them on my own time while I wait for the comps to come around. The next chance we get to do a winter themed comp will be, well, next winter.

  17. My goal recently has been to have two bands and then a mixtape, and then back again. I like the idea of a pattern. Or at least always have a mixtape and band in the poll together.
