  3. 1. That's what I was thinking. They're generally heroes on this sort of issue, at least from what I've seen and read in the past. I often agree with them, but don't like what Anna tweeted.
    2. I read this post in Bernie Sanders' voice. Never change your avatar.

This was news to me today.

  4. She's a moderator of the Women and LBGTQ+ threads in the politics forum. She asked to help moderate those two while we get off the ground because they're close to her heart.

Also, people can @Anna Acosta tag her, I think she should know people are talking about her. I think people should be talking to her instead though. Still reading.

This whole thing is upsetting because I can't hold it against Jake and company for feeling uncomfortable and wanting to leave (obviously), but I also know that one of Jason's biggest goals since day one with this site has been to make it a much safer and more positive site than what AP.net became.

I send all my support to those who have to step back, temporarily or permanently, while also sending my support to Jason and the Chorus.fm as we try to make this something better and truly special.

  6. I don't see it that way. Paying Jason $5 a month is supporting him, not the people using this website. If you don't want to have anything to do with them, you'd stop posting here. IF that's what you're saying you're going to do, then it's absolutely no different than a forum like Twitter where much more damaging things are said regarding addicts and equally important issues every day. Browsing and posting on Twitter is exactly the same, just on a grander scale.

Thanks for clarifying. I knew she moderated only certain forums (as do a lot of moderators) but wasn't sure of the specific ones.

Yeah and you know what hurts? The fact that I was told this would be that kind of site and for me it has been anything but. I don't blame Jason. But I am hurt, I continue to hurt, and just when I think I'm healing something like that gets brought to my attention and again I no longer feel safe or comfortable here.

  10. Maybe I am missing the point you're trying to make, but I'm not willfully ignoring anything. You want to talk insulting, let's talk about blasting me for that?

This issue is a big deal to a lot of people. If you want to leave, that's your choice. I'm just putting may thoughts out there as a third party user of this website that doesn't know Jake or most of you for that matter, but found some support here for shit I have going on in my own life. I don't want to see Chorus lose good posters before it gets a grip of how to react when delicate issues like addiction arise.

  11. I'm sorry you feel that way. The outpouring of support I've seen for you the past 3 days has been encouraging for me to see and It's disappointing to hear that you aren't finding what you expected here.

    Let it run Supporter

I don't understand challenging the viewpoints of posters who are obviously attempting to deal with something that is deeply affecting them. If they don't want to be on the site then let them do what they feel, ya dig? I wish everyone well and want everyone to stay in touch with me but if you feel more comfortable off of the site for the time being, I respect that as well.

  13. I am not abandoning ship on Chorus.fm, I am not canceling my subscription, but if someone who thinks it is okay to say things like that is a part of the site leadership here then I'm not sure how comfortable I feel being an active member of this community. I think that this forum has potential to be a loving and inclusive place, but it's not there yet, and matters of addiction are a little too close to home for me to just look the other way and keep posting like nothing happened. It would be in direct contradiction to what my day-to-day real life has been like for the past fifteen months, both in my journey as a recovering drug addict and in my work as a mentor in a treatment facility, and in my interactions with addicts both recovering and not beyond that capacity.

If Anna and Kayla would like to join the conversation in a meaningful way, that would be great. But unless that happens, I cannot in good conscience continue to post here as a happy go-lucky member of the community, pretending that nothing ever happened. I might take a temporary step back, likely for about a month until after the craziness of exams and Derby week at the restaurant where I work are over.

you say something like "i'm not trying to troll you.." but then make an asinine comparison between what is happening here and what happens on Twitter. folks are saying they want to cease supporting this site because they feel UNSAFE here and don't want to give their money to that. trying to dissuade anyone that feels like jake and others must feel right now is absolutely insulting and counterproductive to the conversations we should be having about this. i don't really want to talk about this in here anymore because i feel like it's distracting from an important conversation, but feel free to message me if you want to.

This sucks. To anyone who does end up leaving - you'll be missed around these parts but taking care of yourself is always more important. Much love.

I don't want to seem like I don't care about all this. It's just really busy at work and I don't want to lash out on someone I don't know for making my friends feel unsafe and angry. I also don't want to say the wrong thing and piss any of you off. But I'm reading what everyone posts when I can.

  18. Maybe I'm missing something then, which is entirely possible. Today I saw @Sophos triggered by something that happened on Twitter, then saw a number of high-profile Chorus users condemning this website after days of supportive conversation following something that actually happened here.

I will PM you and this is the last I'll say publicly on the matter because I'm not a part of Jake's inner support group, so I suppose what I have to say carries little for weight. Best to everyone who decides to leave. Chorus will be worse for it.

If you need someone to vent to without judgment, my Facebook is there for you, though I know you already have people for that, and my very different background means I won't be able to relate or give advice or anything but an ear.

People in the lgbt+ community are disproportionately affected by mental illness and addiction. It's shitty that someone who moderates the lgbt thread would have such views.

I know I said that was my final post but, whatever, I guess I'm stubborn. She has been tagged in this thread and doesn't feel like engaging in this discussion, but will still send off tweets like the ones in this thread. It is pathetic. There shouldn't be excuses made for this kind of behavior but that is ... all that is being done.
