Glasgow set-times are BN are 7.30 and Biffy at 9. Logically going for as close to an hour set as possible.

I would laugh if they just mixed it up and played Your Favourite Weapon and walked off haha

Guess I better start listening to Biffy Clyro then...
first time I'm attending a show for the support band.

Really hoping for a longer set, seeing them in Birmingham and as much as I like Biffy, I'm basically going for Brand New.

Their new album is their weakest for a while, but the three before are all great. As long as you know Mountains, Stinging Belle, The Captain, Black Chandelier, Many of Horror & Living is a Problem then you'll be fine.

I didn't stay for all.of Biffy's show. They were kind of boring. I like the band and all but not enough to enjoy them that much. I saw all the songs I wanted. Can't believe they played Justboy lol

Master of not knowing what the hell I'm doing.

I'd completely disagree that the newest is the weakest actually, of the songs that they'll play (i.e. not that god awful country-tinged song) I think there's a lot of really strong songs. I think otherwise Puzzle is best, then Opposites, then Only Revolutions. That said, I am probably a bit biased with Biffy being one of my favourite live bands.

I think Inifinity Land is probably their best, but there's definitely a strong argument to be made that Puzzle shows off the best of their both worlds.

I'm still wondering why a band who claims they're hanging it up in 2018 signed on to be openers for the first time in what, 14 years?

    What's the point?

They could have easily played the same dates but headlining them, however they wouldn't be playing to 10k+ people.

maybe they just wanted to see what its like to play to a bunch of people who dont know them in the year 2016. probably an interesting experience for them.

That seems logical actually. I still think of Brand New as a band with a cult following, because it's not the type of band I can just mention in a conversation and have people immediately know who they are, even if they're playing arenas both sides of the atlantic. It's not an issue of trying to get new fans, probably just for them to know if they can or not.

Are we still rolling with the "BN are breaking up in 2018 thing"? Did I miss them outright saying that? I thought it was pretty clear it was a SoCo reference

Yeah They're done after 2018. It was on stickers that came with the first round of lyric books.

The numbers above RIP 2018 correlate to "Brand New"

plus multiple times Jesse said something along the lines of "this will probably be our last time here" during shows

If they ended every date of 2016 with a soco reference without actually playing soco I'd probably stop listening. Lol

plus jesse has said he doesn't want to still be doing this when he's 40 and he's about to be there. the very best possible outcome you can hope for if you don't want them to end is all this meaning they won't tour anymore, but might still release music, based on that one insta vid floating around. doubt that was the meaning though.

There's no way Brand New goes from a band that exclusively tours for 7+ years, to a band that exclusively releases music and doesn't tour. hahah I just hope Jesse does some kind of chill project he just releases but doesn't tour off of (like what Stephen Christian is doing with Anchor & Braille now).

yeah, i don't really see that happening either. he's clearly not itching to release non Brand New related music, besides the occasional one off cover. but i think it's a valid interpretation of the stuff he said in that vid, a best case scenario.

So they're trying to build their fan base? Even though they're hanging it up in 2018? What's the point?

By the way, my original statement was a bit facetious because I don't actually believe they'll be done in 2018.

Direct support for a 10k+ venue would make at least if not more than the amount of money that a headliner would make in a 2-3k venue.

edit: just to be clear I'm speculating based on some of the capacity of UK venues I saw that they played at in 2015.

    all we have is time

Because if they're going to release a new record it only makes sense that they'd still want it to sell. They're not done yet, and this is some good exposure overseas for them. These tours are likely to build up hype for whatever they're going to put out next year. Until 2018, they're still a band and probably still care about the promotional aspect and getting this new music to as many ears as possible.

(all assuming there even is a new album. haha)

It was always going to be a shorter set. I'd said it multiple times in here 45 minutes would be the most logical set up with Biffy doing well over an hour and a half. They're taking a tour like this as Brand New would never fill a full arena tour on their own here. They're finishing in 2018 and they probably wanted to play a venue like the o2 Arena to 20,000 people before they did. They couldn't do it alone so taking a tour like this, with a band they more than likely enjoy the music of considering they love The Xcerts, makes perfect sense.

I'm going to two dates of the tour and I couldn't be more excited for it. Bit hard to be annoyed at the set time when they were fully advertised as a support band.

    Keep on moving. Busy street.

My main concern is whether they'll be breaking up as soon as 2018 begins or by November/December. I really want to see them live at least once and I'm afraid that if I don't do so next year, I'll never have the chance.

  25. Jamie Dagg

Master of not knowing what the hell I'm doing.

Their support time is a bit of a curious one, though. Brand New is definitely larger than your average support act for an arena tour- not necessarily an equivalent, but A Day To Remember took Neck Deep on their Arena tour as main support, playing pretty much all the venues the Biffy tour is hitting- the size difference between the two is incomparable.
