Introduced some French Extremism to a couple friends last night. Half way through Martyrs, I was a little worried I'd gone too far to start haha. Thankfully they really enjoyed it and we followed it up with Inside when they wanted to see another.

I have to give this another chance. I wasn't in the right mindset the first time I tried it.

lmao starting with Martyrs is... well, frankly, i don't quite know what you would start with. Martyrs is probably the best-received and most straight-forward example of it. Inside is the apex in my personal opinion though. NFE is so much fun, albeit hard to make fans of, haha.

You are probably the only person I've ever seen refer to Martyrs as "fun" haha

Decided to watch Freddy vs Jason tonight. One that I didn't get around to in October. I think in trying to return to the roots of the characters it took itself a bit too seriously, but it's a tough balance to strike and I respect what they tried to do.

That being said, some of the acting - WOOF!

Friday & Elm St. are my two favorite horror franchises. With that said, the core of the charm in both is rooted in the 80's. I've been disappointed in modern adaptations. To me, Friday should have ended after VIII and Elm St. after New Nightmare

I think you're right. Maybe that's why the whole thing felt a little off. Do you feel the same way about Chucky? From what I've heard, the newest one modernized the character pretty successfully

Yea I've only enjoyed the first three Chucky films. I don't mind Chucky going meta and becoming an anti-hero with humor (as Freddy Kruger went there in later sequels). There was a definite shift in tone for horror that defined that late 90s where TV stars were frequently cast. Some of them worked (Scream) while others relied on bringing in a new audience for older properties (Bride of Chucky, Halloween H2O).

The Saw series, as well as the Final Destination series, made me never want me to leave my house.

Freddy Vs. Jason is awk cause of that f-word usage. So cringy and dated. Nightmare is a franchise that has SO many possibilities like so many cool things could be done with the dream state and it's a franchise you can get really creative with so it's disappointing that they squandered the opportunity in the remake.

    love the genre
irreversible is probably my fav. frontiers is really fun, although it's not that original. Haute Tension doesn't make any sense when you think about it but the effects are good lol.

Haha. My buddy was complaining that nothing is scary and I figured, let's give him one of the most fucked up films of all time haha. Thankfully at the end of the movie, the two I watched it with received it really well. I'll show them others when they feel like it
