why are the playoffs mostly luck but the rest of the season isn’t? Makes zero sense

 

Idk, yes there are a lot of outlier results and crazy shit that happens in fantasy but what happens on the fringes doesn’t define the majority of games. The majority of games you can look at and be like “yeah that makes sense this guy started better matchups and more players who were trending up while the opponent took a risk on someone who wasn’t producing cause they didn’t have enough RB depth when their RB1 went down” etc

i can *************sort of************ understand this logic if youre thinking about it in terms of, now its just 3 weeks of the best teams going against the best teams, so whatever happens happens, where as regular season one week you could be playing the top team and someone else is playing the team that left 5 guys on BYE.

 

In 2012 I did research cuz I was super bored back then and the Fail Mary actually decided the entire results of the season

I won the league because the Fail Mary was called the way it was and if it were called in the reverse manner my friend would've won and I would've lost in round 1 of the playoffs

That was because of a week 3 regular season game

 

Because the regular season isn’t single elimination. Even if you get unlucky sometimes like everyone does, 95% of the time if you drafted a good team with enough depth to handle injuries and made a few smart pickups on waivers you are still prob going over .500 and limping into the playoffs

 

Not like now when I use my time very wisely

 

One unlucky loss doesnt matter much in the regular season but it is the only thing that matters if you lose in the playoffs

To add to how luck-based it all is, one season of NFL football is a very small sample size of data that fans and teams alike always use to make decisions based off of. A fantasy football season is even shorter, and that’s not even considering when players miss time due to injuries.

You can think it’s all skill and you know so much, but you’re still oftentimes making decisions based on a very small sample size that the human being will often chalk up to skill when they are right and luck when they are wrong to justify their decisions.

 

It decides playoff seeding which often influences the playoff luck!

You're speaking like there's outliers but the fact is fantasy football is almost ALL outliers which makes outliers the norm frankly
