As I said in the other thread, if he/they want to keep using the demand to help out good causes, then fine more power to him/them. But it still sucks that he/they have never tried to address the situation outside of that statement/half apology. If he actually did the work to make the scene better and safer for girls/young women, I think he'd find more people willing to forgive, given the folk hero status the band has in the scene. But he just wanted to disappear.

I can appreciate the perspective of using the demand to help out good causes, but do want to state that there's a flipped perspective of "using tragedies as shields"

I mean if people wanna listen to music made by a band whose frontman was revealed to have paedophilic and predatory allegations against him to the extent he dropped off the face of the earth for years, you do you. As a big fan right up until the news broke, I get it. What you don't get to do is act all haughty because you're still out here riding for a band led by a predator and backed by enabler bandmates who said nothing in response to his initial statement in 2017. They tucked their tails and ran. Nothing at all was done in response aside from the band immediately breaking up. That's cowardice. Returning to music with nothing said since is also cowardice. Right at the centre of one of the biggest scandals in the wider scene in the last decade, at the arguable height of your band's popularity, and you decide to just disappear. If the band name is tarnished now, there's no reason why it shouldn't be after what he did and how it was handled. Fuck around and find out.

I admittedly have a couple of Brand New vinyl, and I should get rid of them (DM me?) and I don't listen to the band at all anymore, but who honestly cares if someone does?

it's just immature/intentionally trolling to champion them, especially in this community. you are not a victim for continuing to support a band with credible predatory allegations against them. you are not punk to stand up for people that do not know you and do not care about you.

you are also not a lesser or worse person for continuing to listen to them, no matter what anyone else may think.

I think he did the work to fix himself personally and fix his personal relationships with his family and bandmates and maybe even the victims themselves, though I don’t know that for sure. But putting in work to make the scene safer for girls, doing workshops or something with young and upcoming bands and boys and talking to them about respecting women and etc. would make me way more likely to want to spend money to see Brand New again.
