    Trusted

I don't think everyone realizes it is a fictional character.

Movie should have been called "Lead Female Character Whose Legal Name Is Anora But She Prefers Ani"

I have no idea what people are discoursing on Twitter and don’t care.

I do think, as far as Criterion covers go, that Anora one is pretty meh and not great. But, idk, whatever.

    Maybe so, maybe not.

It has gotta be exhausting living like those people, god damn.

most of the complaints i have seen aren’t about the movie itself but about a movie that is still actively in theaters being released by criterion which i kinda get but it isn’t the first time they’ve done that

It’s apparently an homage to another film.

Oh my gosh, what??? That’s fucking hilarious, lol.

Vampyros Lesbos has been on my to-watch list forever. Can’t comment too much ‘cause I haven’t watched it yet, but like… that’s such a nonsensical thing to homage with Anora. What were they thinking besides “lol”?

I havent seen the movie but the red scarf is apparently directly lifted from it. Been meaning to check out some Jess Franco

Tbf I also don’t love the cover. Not for any moral grandstanding reasons, I just don’t think it looks good

the red scarf has symbolic meaning

a great example of people losing their minds at things and then it turns out it just went over their heads

The funny thing to me is that, unless I’m misled about the broad strokes of Vampyros Lesbos… Ani’s role in Anora is literally the opposite to the Countess in that movie? Real case of it making less sense the more you know, lol. Oh well.

Well, work was canceled today, and this was the second reminder within a week that I need to watch Vampyros Lesbos. So, trying to get it downloaded on my shitty internet so I can finally get to it.

Hope to report back to this thread by tonight.

Vampyros Lesbos was rad. Should watch some more vampire lesbian movies this year. (Especially since a writer & podcaster I really like, Sara Century, has a zine on that topic in the works.)

I do like that my 2025 movie watching has thus far consisted of Eggers’ Nosferatu (or at least the last third after it hit midnight), then that Nosferatu again, then Vampyros Lesbos. Big year for movies about draculas and dreams and orgasms.

To come back to the move this thread is about… Yeah, I still think the Criterion cover having Ani posed like the Countess Nadine doesn’t make sense, lol. But, hey, anything that brings attention to an old movie for sickos is a win.
