First episode of season three was a banger. The multiple stakeouts was a clever way to catch us up with most of the main characters while setting the stakes of the season.

Okay, I would love to know what the reaction was to the cgi face replacement of Nancy Marchand at the time. It was very jarring, but I wonder if it’s one of those things I wouldn’t have noticed at the time.

Christopher’s high rant about identical beings was a chefs kiss.

I figured this was the response. It was so novel at the time and also not subjected to HD tv, it probably looked great and people were so mesmerized that the didn’t think twice about it.

I miss the days when a new visual effect was truly amazing. Now a days it’s very easy to tell when something looks cheap or used when it wasn’t quite ready for prime time. So many uses of cgi that look bad now felt mind blowing at the time.

CGI was being abused everywhere around that time. The CGI Dwayne Johnson scorpion is infamous. The Matrix Reloaded was all over it. It took a while for filmmakers to learn how to use it more sparingly. Everyone was so impressed with The Abyss and Jurassic Park but didn't learn how they used it correctly.

Just yesterday I stumbled upon Brendan Fraiser's GQ "most iconic characters" interview on youtube and he had a funny tidbit in there about how he saw the special effects guys at the red carpet premier for The Mummy 2 or something like that and the were all like "uhhh yeah we needed more time to finish that" lol. But he made the point that it kind of adds to the whole feel of the Mummy franchise and kind of works with it now looking back.
