as someone who largely sketches out songs on guitar or bass first before programming drums to then have someone re-record with live drums, i have to play to a click because there isn’t anything else for me

but even then i usually will program the drums based on the bass or guitar i have down, scrap those scratch tracks, and then re-record to the drums without a click going

 

If I don't have a click I will zone out and drop dead
