This thread is actually better for my mental health than those sites because at least most of the bad shit that gets posted in here is being posted in a "Can you believe this shit" type of way and I don't feel alone in thinking it's insane lmao. On twitter it's just seeing a bunch of racists/nazis having their blue checked comments pushed to the top of replies of any news story. At least BlueSky is mostly better in that regard.

I'd love to just shut off from the news but I really can't with my job. I gotta try and stay up on current events as much as possible without going insane.

Yes, many people have been removed already and the Chairman has repeatedly said any disruption will result in removal, and they've had to stop at least 3 or 4 times during his opening statement (which is still ongoing...)

My US civics isn’t the best but how is this confirmation hearing happening before Trump is even sworn in?

 

Yeah I assumed this process happened after the president being sworn in, but maybe not

 

Since Congress gets sworn in before pres, they usually start the confirmation process before inauguration so the president can start with some of his people asap. I think the hearings happen but that actual votes either don't happen until the 21st or at least don't take effect until then
