Anyone watch American Primeval?

 

I watched the whole thing and absolutely loved it. Thought it was fantastic.

ya'll are crazy. The mom and daughter bring a fun dynamic to the show in my opinion. Helps break up the tension during some episodes and I absolutely love the banter between billy bobs character and them.

 

They make the mom and daughter laughably stupid and the daughter being 17 and everyone being horny around her all the time is gross. Just terrible all around.

reading the second part of the sentence, Im not sure if were talking about the same show. The one dude Dale seems to care less about her existence. The lawyer seemed more uneasy around her walking around in her underwear/bikini than horny. And of course her teenage bf is going to be horny around her lol. Not sure who 'everyone' is that you were speaking about.

 

They play into the dumb blonde trope wayyyyy too hard lol.

Look, on one hand I'm sure it's very reflective of how boring a tiny oil town like where they're at really is, and it's just showing that them helping out with the old folks home is literally the only thing they can do. They CANT go back to the country club lol. And the show wouldn't work with them going to the nearest big city to do stuff.

And this is coming from someone who laughs at Sheridan playing himself as the Head Honcho Boss Cowboy Shit in Yellowstone.

 

Saw the musical live with Sara in 2017 and then rented this last year. So good. Looking forward to another rewatch.

Also I only recently learned of the crazy backstory to the original movie. The actress who played the nerdy waitress also wrote and directed the movie (I think it was her directorial debut?) And she got murdered months before the film premiered. At first it was ruled a suicide but the husband hired a private investigator and uncovered that she was murdered by a maintenance worker in her building and he eventually confessed and got convicted. So sad.

 

I feel like Landman lacked a lot of narrative cohesion. Like the entire first season Cooper only interacted with his mom and sister twice briefly. Jon Hamm is off in his own show basically. The mom and daughter stuff is so tonally off from everything else. All the subplots seem so apart from eachother.

 

I will watch this. I just replayed RDR2 so I am in a western mood. Started Deadwood again and just watched Ken Burns' The West PBS doc.

 

That The West doc is soo good; incredibly dense though, so requires rapt attention, haha.

 

New Goosebumps season is so fun; giant blob! hahaha

 

it's fairly violent & brutal, but it's really great

Silo - One more episode to be caught up, but despite liking the season to start, I'm really not feeling it at this point. It's so exposition heavy, and I feel like everything is explained and talked about vs anything actually happening. It also feels formulaic where it's just scenes of dialogue and a rising score, and then something dramatic is said, music ends and boom, next conversation. It just doesn't have a good or exciting flow to it this season and I'm mostly disappointed. I like the characters enough, I like the premise, and from the books, I know the stakes and some things that are probably still going to happen, but I think the execution has been pretty bad.

 

First episode of American Primeval was decent. Should be good enough but no where near deadwood level.

 

Soundtrack to a Coup D'état, which is one of the favorites to get a Best Documentary Feature nom is currently streaming on the free library app Kanopy.

It is about how American jazz musicians of the early 1960's were intermeshed in the decolonization African independence movements.

 

Netflix spends a billion dollars a year to just make the same movie over and over again lol

Jamie Fox had that stroke on set which probably set back production for a long time
