We are watching Macbeth and I try to connect the actors to stuff they have seen so when Brendan Gleeson came on screen I said he was from Joker 2 and a kid said "you say that like it's a good thing!" and I couldn't stop laughing.

 

lol I do the same thing with William Hurt and Too Big To Fail when I show it, but no one ever remembers Secretary Ross from the marvel movies

 

I couldn't think of a single movie McDormand has been in that they would have seen. A few of them knew Washington from Gladiator 2.

 

Yeah I just looked at her filmography and goddamn there's not one thing a teenager would know her from haha. Maybe the voice of the mom in The Good Dinosaur, but that's about it. Possibly some of them have seen Fargo.

Denzel is a little more surprising. They should at least know him from the memes!

 

I usually show the movies in chunks to help them during longer texts so I am showing just Act I. A few years ago when I showed the Great Gatsby movie this one kid kept referring to Nick Carraway as Spider-Man for the rest of the book.

One of the biggest mistakes I made was showing the 1931 Frankenstein film when we were reading the book. I told them the plots were mostly unrelated and I just wanted them to see different artistic interpretations but the kids who were relying on the movie to be able to not pay attention to the book were thrown off.

Years ago we used to show Avatar for a unit on colonialism and it was like having an entire week off.

That is the main reason his movie needs to fail. You can't be named that close to one of our nation's most beloved actors. It would be like if we sent them a Mikey Kain.

It’s been airing for awhile but Kaitlyn Dever and Dominic Sessa doing a hotels dot com ad makes me sad

 

was thinking it was the guy from gladiator 2/stranger things but you’re right

 

Sessa was in one movie that got a lot of hype just over a year ago. He can do bad commercials for now.

 

he's gonna play tony bourdain too, im fine with him cruising until then

 

nothing can be sadder than Amy Poehler and Maya Rudolph selling ring cameras

 

I’m sure they’re probably making a decent sum

 

I mean yeah checks clear and Sessa has like 3 movies in post right now and Dever has The Last of Us season 2, I just wish they didn’t *have* to do commercials lol. Like seeing Woody Harrelson and McConaughey sell Salesforce AI just sucks (not that those two aren’t fine)

 

Need more regular people in commercials that’s all

 

Dever also has that Netflix miniseries coming up. Not to take away from your point.

I wouldn’t blame Sessa for doing it even in the era of normal people doing ads. He’s probably getting paid more for that than “The Holdovers.” Dever is kind of a strange choice, but I guess she’s not like a big star, pre-“Last of Us.”
