Per the insurance topic earlier, pardon my ignorance, but won't these insurance companies come nowhere close to actually covering what has been lost? We are talking one of the richest areas in the country, with hundreds upon hundreds of multi-million dollar homes being destroyed. There is no way they will be able to give people the money/value back.

 

Most insurance companies themselves also buy insurance (called re-insurance) which cover claims above some threshold amount in the case of extreme events

 

Do they have the ability to cover what has been lost? Yes. Will they? No.

Insurance companies have billions and billions (and billions) in assets.
