1. It was a paraphrase from your stump speech in which you said the excerpt you quoted me quoting. Your exact words were:

I think if you didn't think that, you would be being dishonest in including that phrase. This is why I said "Biden is trying to getting Israel to stop" was your assertion instead of just "if we wanted to get Israel to stop it would be hard but we actually don't want to very badly if at all" because that's a weaselly semantic distinction that contradicts the implication received from a plain reading of the text.

The gist is that by including that excerpt in a text meant to convince the audience to vote for Biden, you were either: 1) being dishonest by saying that the administration was making an effort that had any hope of succeeding; or 2) choosing your words so carefully that you could maintain plausible deniability over saying that effort existed while implying it did, which means that you were both aware of the implication and its falsehood; or 3) you actually believed that shit. I was trying to be generous by assuming 3) was the case.

2. I think most people would agree that in this context a "good faith effort" is one that has virtually any chance of succeeding. How would you define it?

The point of that post was, iirc (which I may be misremembering because unlike you i don't wake up on monday morning at 7 AM and go back and read posts from months or years ago lol), what would I say if I were trying to get people to vote for me/my guy instead of just trying to brush off concerns about Israel like many Dems and/or dem supporters seemed to be doing at the time. And at the time there were at least some reports of verbal pushback from the admin on Israel, but they never materialized into anything serious to make it stop on their part. I was certainly hoping the political consequences of not doing anything real to make it stop would be staring them in the face and their instinct for self-preservation of their jobs would take over and they'd get more serious as the summer wore on. My hopes were higher immediately after Biden dropped out since it was becoming clearer in the spring that Biden was going to be stubborn and be willing to lose the election over it. Unfortunately Harris was too afraid to step out of line with the admin, if she indeed wanted to, and too many surrogates online continued to dismiss concerns from voters in unproductive ways, IMO. Regardless, I continue to think Gazan's best chance for a better outcome would be with Harris over Biden and a Dem admin over a Repub one, and especially a Trump one where he's been pretty explicit with what his plans are there.

2. I think many US officials still naively believe that the American govt simply asking other countries to do things carries weight, but I don't know if I'd call it "effort". Negotiation and discussion is a good start, but as it became clear to Bibi that the Biden admin wasn't willing to use leverage, any weight those talks carried was going to dissipate.

 

I think this is in reference to his "release the hostages or face hell" threats, which i mean yeah, Biden could have maybe gone that way too and threated liek full US intervention/invasion to make it happen, but I don't think I would have liked that lol
