The Pitt just makes me wonder where the fuck has Noah Wyle been post-ER? Dude should have been starring in prestige limited series getting Emmy noms the last 10 years, he's that good.

I can't imagine having a smart TV device that doesn't have chromecasting capabilities. Can airplay cast anything you want from an iPhone, like even videos on random websites? Maybe you can, I'm not sure! Bummer that it's constrained to one specific ecosystem.

On Android, even if a certain website doesn't have casting capabilities on a video, you can just download an app like Web Video Caster and it will scrape the video off any website for casting

Yeah I can't imagine a non Google TV. I've also got a Samsung that runs on the Samsung OS and my pixel won't natively cast like with a Google TV/chromecast, I have to download a 3rd party app and that only works half the time, on random sites, and when it DOES work sometimes I have to leave my phone on the cast screen as if I was actually mirroring (which I'm not) so I can't do anything on my phone or it'll kill the stream.

Yeah, my LG OLED only *just* got Chromecasting capability for everything a few weeks ago and I'm so glad to not have to switch to a 3rd party device haha. I mean, I could cast to certain apps on the TV if they were currently open on it like YouTube, but that's much more limiting. It's huge to be able to cast anything you want regardless of what's open on your TV currently

Yeah, getting a third party app to sync to whatever third party app the actual TV has (because you can always download a different APK) is like playing Russian roulette trying to get them to communicate to each other. No thanks lol.

  15. I’m over here unable to imagine putting my TV on the internet. :crylaugh: those companies are insane what they’re doing these days. Upgrade the firmware and never give it your WiFi

Ok so hear me out, turn off the Wi-Fi on the TV to disable all "Smart " functions and plug in a first gen Chromecast. Those models don't have any features installed, you can't install anything on them, the dongle is just that. A device to cast to. All you get if you switch to the input is a screensaver stock image with the date and time. So it has limited Internet to be able to communicate with casting devices ......but no apps harvesting data.

I mean, why would I care that Google or LG know I watch old re-runs of Futurama and Friends??

It’s 2025, I do not care what my tv tracks. Everything is fucked and I’ll probably be dead in 15 years.

been a Chromecast/Google TV fan for years. the Google TV Streamer works super well for my purposes, and is much better than the built-in capabilities of my Samsung TV.

Extremely controversial, but I actually like that my Chromecast with Google TV serves me ads on the very top of the home screen - sometimes it suggests shit to me that I've never heard of and never would have watched otherwise

I have a smart TV but I don't cast stuff, never had a situation where I would need to

Being able to search for something on a keyboard is so much nicer than using a TV remote though

most of the time the only stuff i directly cast nowadays are apps that don't have a Google TV equivalent yet (Apple Music and the A24 app). everything else i use via the Google TV Streamer's apps.
