It does feel like they are stagnating under Tomlin, sample size certainly enough by now

 

They’ve been cooked since Ben’s elbow injury in 2019. Kudos to them for at least taking a swing on Pickett, even though it didn’t work out, but time take another swing on a rookie. The list of impending free agents is extremely uninspiring, as are Cousins and Rodgers.

I’d say bring in a cheap veteran bridge in free agency and draft a rookie

 

Or maybe trade for Darnold idk, that doesn’t feel too inspiring either

 

IMO this is the ceiling for the current Tomlin brand of football

I Dont know how you can grind out this style consistently and ever win anything. Then again they havent exactly had top tier QB play recently.

 

I believe Darnold is an UFA

The obvious problem is that is exactly what they did this year; and it worked better than dirt cheap rookies, but not by much. And this is an awful QB draft for a team with the 20th-ish pick.

But this is the deeper problem. Arthur Smith is an improvement over past OC options, but, seeing what Johnson/Monken/etc have all done makes it really clear that Tomlin is the problem in who he hires. How many years of Matt Canada, etc did we get?

I dont think Fields or Russ are the answer, but I'd damn sure rather give Ben Johnson a shot at resuscitating one of them than stand pat, because nothing gets better for at least the next 2 years otherwise.
