Wrecked 'em? Damn near killed 'em!

I feel like they said they also did an impromptu version of You Know How I Do during one of these sets. That would’ve been cool to hear. I saw them play at my school a month before they did these shows. So it’s interesting to think back to that show, watch this one and listen to these interviews, then less than 2 months later, Fazzi & Rubano are gone. In the interviews, Adam, Mark and Eddie don’t talk about Fazzi directly at all, and only Adam says anything about Rubano talking about how good of a bassist he is. But in their rehearsal footage, everyone seems to be getting along just fine.

A quick anecdote about the show they played at my school: it was the college tour they did with AAR and Anberlin. I helped set up the stage and deliver stuff for their riders to their buses for that show, and was kinda hanging out around the outdoor/backstage area in the afternoon before the show- and Mark, Eddie and Adam were filming a bunch of videos/skits to post to their social media at the time, but Rubano and Fazzi weren’t in them at all. At the time I didn’t think anything of it, then when they got kicked out I was like “ohh man there were already problems back then”

Now that you mention You Know How I Do, I vaguely can remember that. Unfortunately the setlist.fm data for this show is just the tracklisting, which is a bummer, and any site I might've made any kind of comment on regarding the setlist is probably long gone.

I feel like I remember reading (or listening in a podcast somewhere) that this show was more or less the straw that broke the camel's back. Like there were issues prior to it, but they all came to a head during rehearsals for this, and if the TBS camp were the ones involved with putting together the footage, I'm sure they didn't want to put any of that in it.
I think timeline-wise, Mark said he'd been pushing for the change since December, which would've been around this time (he'd mentioned once in an interview, going to see John do a solo set around the same time and floating the idea to him). TBS with the Matts had one final run of shows (an Australian festival in February or something?) before the switch, but I think by the time they played those Australian shows, plans were already in motion for the secret meet up.

Yeah I remember Adam saying in a podcast once that during that whole Australian tour, he didn’t say more than a couple words to Fazzi. And then when they kicked Rubano out, they announced the reunion with John & Shaun the next day (according to Rubano).

I remember when they posted they were leaving. It was back in the day when band websites would have "diary" sections the members could update, and Fazzi and Rubano posted their goodbye notes relatively close together. Then the website "glitched" and showed a pop up of a recreated version of an old lineup photo with black bars over the eyes and everything felt insane because it was so much information to try and process within like an hour while also being at work.

Yeah following that lineup change was so crazy because at the time it seemed literally impossible that John and Shaun would return, even though fans were asking for it during the entire Fred and Fazzi eras. Looking back at that archive is a trip though. It made me remember how before I knew about places like absolutepunk I would literally come home from school and check all my favorite bands websites to see if there were any updates, especially when I knew they were recording or close to announcing a new album. When TBS would have a new webisode leading up to Louder Now I would get soooo excited lol especially if there was a new song clip or something similar.

I was just thinking about like…pre-Twitter/instagram, when you could get a real time alert when a band posted, you wouldn’t know until you went to a band’s website. Crazy.

it's kinda funny I usually don't care about band drama and honestly think this is no great loss, but it's got me listening to TBS and Straylight Run more than I have in years. damn they're good stuff

So what's the chances Will Noon can step in on drums now

I used to have like 5 pages I'd go and visit routinely, and one of those was ap.net, but I'm so glad we're not there anymore, and so glad I didn't understand a lot of the English - I'm currently reading Where Are Your Boys Tonight and wanted to google some info on the Dashboard Confessional/Drive Thru drama, stumbled upon a punknews article on DC from 2002, and the comments were SO bad, made me somehow undecided wheter to cry or throw up

I was probably too young and naive to appreciate the message in it at the time, but Straylight Run’s Who Will Save Us Now? came on tonight and holy shit that song hits hard now.

Guys, since we've been talking about New Again for a few days now, I've got a question for you: If this record store that I go to twice a year still has their used vinyl copy of New Again there, should I cop it? Is it actually worth anything? I'm leaning towards picking it up because why the hell not, a copy of that album on any format is pretty hard to come by where I'm at. (btw, I believe it's the original 2009 print, but I'm not entirely sure. I'll have to check back on Sunday.)

Insane that that song (and album really) was written back then and not in the present day.

I have a copy of the needles, the space on vinyl, and it’s so good.

The announcements of Fazzi and Rubano leaving/ rumours of John and Shaun rejoining were what sparked my interest in the band. A few of my friends were fans and posted about it on Facebook like it was such a big deal that I figured I should finally check TBS out. I remember driving to and from my cousin’s house on Easter 2010 blasting a LimeWire download of “Cute Without the E” on repeat the whole time and quickly becoming obsessed with their catalogue

I don’t think I came across AP.net until a few months later, but I remember it was bc I was googling to find reviews of New Again. I don’t recall anything about the site’s review at this point, but if it’s archived somewhere I think it’d be fun to re-read it after all these years

Other fun facts: “Existentialism on Prom Night” was the first song I ever bought on iTunes and is the only song I have lyrics to tattooed on me
