It is similar in environmental damage to a coal mine, which is significant. The use of coal is far more damaging though than the use of lithium. Lithium can also be extracted through brine extraction, which is far less environmentally damaging, but I don’t think you get as much of the product.

 

Thank you all for the answers, I always get annoyed when people (right wingers) post a picture of a lithium mine and be like "Doesn't look very environmentally friendly to me!" and I wondered if there was something that somehow made it any worse for the environment than a coal mine or something like that lol. Like yeah duh all mines are damaging to the environment, but the product we're getting from one vs. the other makes a big difference!

 

the quicker people realize there is nothing actually "environmentally friendly" the better. But there are things that are better and have lesser impacts. Mining for and using lithium batteries isn't good but the total environmental impact is lower than say mining and using coal. The goal should be to continue to improve the technology we have to make it as safe and low impact as possible

like the big argument here in new jersey with the offshore wind farms. Like yeah, there will be some adverse impacts to the environment, but what are the alternatives?

 

Yeahh my ex has had it before and it sounded terrible when she described it. Good thing COVID has made me a germaphobe I guess haha. I always alcohol wipe my desk at work (they're shared desks that we reserve online before coming in) and use way more hand sanitizer than is probably necessary lol

 

For Norovirus, I read that hand sanitizer isn’t really effective. You want to wash your hands with soap.

Yeah I think moving power, energy, and products away from fossil fuels is the most important thing right now. AND not allowing projects to skirt environmental protections, and mining in the most environmentally friendly way possible. These things can all be done at the same time.
I also wish we could bring consumption down and normalize reuse the way counries we haven’t totally imperialized have, but asking the American public to do anything right now that benefits everyone seems impossible

We just had Noro. I don’t remember the last time I was THAT sick. 37 years old and needed a puke bucket. It was awful. Lasted 3-4 days for both of us.

 

Our state finally updated the covid numbers for post christmas. Annoyingly, you can only ever see this weeks numbers, and all the past numbers get put on a chart that just shows the "cases per 100K" (still fucking stupid IMO, I def remember when they started making that switch and it being about minimizing, saying shit like oh the rate per 100K means more than the total cases because so many people are asymptomatic and etc bla blah...just post the total numbers you fucks)....but predictably there was a huuuge jump for the week after christmas, but if it peaks here (or peaks next week, which will actually be this current weeks numbers when they post it), then it'll be peaking well below where we peaked this past summer/fall, so that would be good news

 

Imagine going out of your way to promote how completely useless you are during an emergency.
