The Matrix is such a personal story, especially as more and more people have made the connections between the Wachowskis coming to terms with their gender identities during the original trilogy, that giving it to a hired hand makes no sense. Moving on from the creative force almost never works. You might get a movie that accurately apes the original film, but there is no heart there.

Would I prefer that Lana is involved? Yes, obviously.

But idk, look at something like Blade Runner 2049. I think if a new creative team comes at it with a new idea and a lot of love and respect for the original, it could be cool!

I still maintain that the last one would’ve been better overall if they focused on the meta commentary about remakes and reboots, like it was right there. It had other problems but that one really bothered me.

The Matrix: New Movie in the Works From Drew Goddard

Two interesting takeaways from this article.

    1. Apparently Drew Goddard came with the idea for the film, not the other way around.

    2. Lana is attached as executive producer, which might be a meaningless role, or it might be a sign of approval?

if she's given it her blessing by serving as EP (which i assume means that Lilly has also implicitly given it her blessing), i don't see a huge problem with it being made. sure, i don't think Drew Goddard can handle the narrative on gender identity the way they can (and i don't expect him to touch it), but i also don't think Lana would be on board if it was completely devoid of commentary. that being said, i could be wrong and he could completely fuck it up.

Wild Wild West was the better fit for him at the time, he was on a comedy roll at the time haha. hard to envision him as neo in that movie tbh.

I would bet this is for a Super Bowl ad and not a new Matrix movie.

Im leaning that way too but it does align with themes explored in the 4th movie
