For what its worth, it seems they've only played Louder Now in full during the 2019 tour and 2 shows in 2018 (from the data I saw in setlist.fm). In contrast to TAYF that has been played in full multiple times.

I’d be surprised if they do. It sounds like they’re working on a new album this year.

I could see them maybe doing a one-off show in Seattle where they play it. But I don’t think they’ll tour it

as much as I’d personally love this, Ben is very vocal about not enjoying a good amount of this album

It would be surprising if that's what TBS does on a coheadliner when Coheed is promoting their new album

The album play is an interesting topic. The first tour that I remember of a band doing that is Jimmy Eat World doing Clarity in 2009 and then WEezer doing the Blinkerton tour in 2010 playing Blue and Pinkerton. Since then, it seems like an easy way to boost ticket sales, especially the unofficial/non-committal "celebrating 10/20 years of" advertisements we now get. Some people aren't even waiting for like proper 5, 10 or 20 year increments anymore (i.e Incubus doing Morning View in full in 2024 celebrating, I guess, the 23rd anniversary of it). It seems to benefit those acts that have 1-2 albums that really tower over the rest of their discography and/or hardcore fans of certain fan favorites. Most albums in my opinion don't necessarily lend themselves well to being played in full as the energy can dip in the second half but I also see it as a way to reach fans who might not have gotten to see the songs in their initial era. TBS seems to lean on this phenomenon extra heavy but I guess that's what they have to do when people fell off after Louder Now.

If an album is really good that’s one thing ala sticks and stones, or when Glassjaw did eywtkas and worship and tribute. But a lot of these albums a lot of the deeper cuts are ok songs and the big ones the bands would play anyway.

There's also a lot of albums that on record are fantastic but in a live setting they lose the momentum.
I went to that Incubus Morning View show at MSG last year. Love that album, but there were a few moments where the energy just seemed sucked out of the crowd.
Also didnt help that when the album play was finished they started their "greatest hits" set with 2 covers.

I had the same feeling about Morning View thus why I didn't go (and I saw them in that era like 3 times back in the day). I'd argue that their previous album Make Yourself is actually a better full album play as the middle section, imo, is the best and then you end on two bangers (Pardon Me, Out From Under).

I do think bands are starting to get a bit creative with album-plays, though. I’ve seen They Might Be Giants play their self titled album and Flood front-to-back. When they played their self-titled, they played it in order of “their favorite to least favorite songs on the album.” When I saw them play Flood, they played every song from the album, but they were mixed up with other songs from their discography, so it felt like a regular show.

The "sweet spot" of album plays for me are artists who tend to stick to the 500-1k capacity venues and have an extensive catalog of albums... Most of which are all pretty good to great. That's really the only way to have it not feel repetitive or gimmicky, and TBH, it works much better in a smaller venue anyway.

Once you get up to arena level, it really doesn't matter what album you're playing... The energy is going to get sucked out of the room when you aren't playing the hits/fan-favorites. There's a few exceptions, I'm sure, but I think this mostly holds true.

Related but not exactly the same but along the lines of bands with deep catalogs: I'm a big fan of the "residency" approach. Bands doing a full discography, or a core set of albums, over a 2-4 night stint in each city. I've seen Alkaline Trio, the Bouncing Souls, Less Than Jake, Frank Turner, and Against Me! do this over the years... And it was such a blast! I'd imagine not every artist could pull it off but if you're a band with a deep catalog and diehard fans? It can work really well.

Boston Calling lineup in the next hour…Luke Combs is a headliner.

Seriously, fuck these Live Nation multi genre fests for bringing in bro-country. The bro/MAGA crowd that will infiltrate these fests makes me ill.

#1 album play I need to see is La Dispute’s Somewhere At The Bottom of the River Between Vega and Altair.

If they don’t do it for the 15th anniversary I’ll start my own cover band and do it my damn self.

Dashboard Confessional do full albums plays but they mix it up with other songs. I saw them do it twice with "The Places You Have Come To Fear The Most" and wasnt a big fan of it.

But I saw Keane play Hopes and Fears in the same way and I really enjoyed it. So I guess it depends on the album for me.

I much prefer album plays when they’re a one night only thing in a small venue rather than a full on tour. Then again I’m always able to go to LA so I’m biased lol

At this point, album plays, even for some of my favorites, are mostly proof of why a band may not play certain songs regularly on tour. Fun as fan service, so it tailors better to bands whose fans love deep cuts
