This is pretty funny, whoever edited the wikipedia page for this refuses to call it an EP. I have never seen this before, but it's being listed simply as a "recording"

i prefer "recording" to "project" (which i've also heard her call this in addition to an EP)

Ahh, I thought she was pretty dead set on "EP"

yeah, i think it was in the initial Instagram post where she announced the project, but i could be wrong (i believe The Guardian also called it a project as well)

Cant wait to hear this - but this trend of not releasing physical media is garbage to me

It would definitely need 2xLP with these track lengths, maybe more.

3xLP for sure. but keep in mind why the hang-ups with physicals took place - she's an independent artist with a publishing contract with Prescription Songs (Dr. Luke). they originally said they'd only put PD on vinyl if they could take more of her money, so it didn't happen for years. and that record will seemingly have more fans/broad appeal than Perverts will, so pressing an 89 minute atmospheric album might not happen unless this record does really well.

Definitely understand why this is NOT labeled an album. There's a few sparse songs buried in here and a some nice instrumental passages but a lot of it sounds soundscape-based interludes that should be 1 min extended to 12 min. I imagine this will get decent reviews given a lot of critics missed Preacher's Daughter when it was out but this definitely something for die-hards only.

I've got Thoroughfare on right now, and they started testing the tornado sirens - fit in so well

Maybe I didn’t realize what this release was going to be, but definitely something I can’t find myself ever returning to.

With a 90 minute release, I guess I didn’t expect like 85 minutes of it to just be haunting instrumentals haha

It's not quite 85 min of that haha but like....almost literally 40-50 min of a sound effect that just loops. Really odd choice to release this.

Feels like an effort to sort the wheat from the chaff with regards to how serious her fanbase are about her

Coming from somebody who likes drone and ambient shit, this is…mostly just fine. It being as long as it is is somewhat of a joke and at least on first listen is what’s holding me back from being more enthusiastic. Give me more of those Barwick vibes from Thatorchia - fantastic song! Pulldrone and Etienne are both great too.

It ends on a great string of tracks so we’ll see if that + a better setting than work helps me grow to appreciate the whole thing more.

Trying to keep an open mind! While I certainly did not want a Preacher's Daughter 2, I don't think I was expecting what is being described in here - at least not in terms of straight up instrumental tracks. At any rate, I do also enjoy atmospheric meanderings so I will remain cautiously optimistic for tomorrow.

Feel like once we get a more song-oriented follow-up there will be a legion of stans who will claim this is a misunderstood masterpiece and only TRUE Ethel Cain fans can appreciate it or other such nonsense.

If you've ever enjoyed listening to your neighbour strimming his lawn on a Sunday morning as you lay in bed with a raging hangover - you may enjoy 'Pulldrone'
